Be careful when booking the walkup sites. My friend and I accidentally double booked our sites. Since you have to book the walk to sites beyond the reservation window if you are staying more than 2 nights, the booking software doesn't allow you to modify or cancel your reservation for a week. Since you can only book less than 1 week out, this basically means that you can't get money back because you can't cancel your reservation because your reservation would be over by the time you would be able to cancel it. Unfortunately this led to an empty site that could have been used by someone else at a very busy campground.

Do not expect a refund, recreation.gov website doesn't allow you process your refund due to "an error has occured".

Someone is occupying the camp space and no management staff can be found to deal with the matter. Very bad place. Application for refund was also rejected. I spent money but couldn't check in on time.

We stayed in a walk-up campsite, which was not a far walk and easy to access items we left in our vehicle. The sites were clean, but relatively close together. Sound definitely travels in this campground, but I don't think that's avoidable. It can get windy, which helps buffer the sounds. But obviously then comes with the issue of wind blowing stuff around.

The campground is great for what it is -- a clean & fairly safe place to sleep in the desert close to Red Rocks.

Feedback:

1) Generators. These days there is no need for generators. Solar panels and batteries provide the power necessary for RVs to take the comforts of home into the wilderness. I would like to see generators banned completely. If that's not possible then generator quiet hours MUST be enforced. Several times throughout my 2-week stay I heard generators running through the night!

2) Camp hosts. Most camp hosts were awesome. But a couple of them seem to be running out of energy for the job and were confrontational and rude. I understand it's a tough job (especially in light of point 3 below) but pleaes treat people with compassion and respect no matter how tired you are.

3) Security - there were at least 2 dangerous close calls involving police action last month at Red Rocks Canyon Campground. One inolved a crazed driver recklessly crashing through the campground at high speeds and ended in a police chase and shooting in the park; the other resulted in quite the scene at the camp ground as an invididual was arrested. Campground safety seems to be a growing concern, as speaking with the camp hosts this is a problem that's only been getting worse.

Clean and accessible

quite windy combined with rocky ground at the walk in sites made securing tents a challenge. Many folks tied their tent to the site marker post and had to use rocks inside their tents to keep them from blowing away.

Host was super friendly and welcoming. We booked through the recreation.gov app without ever having visited. Host informed us we were located on on the walk-in side of the campground. We stayed in 94 , which I would say is biggest of all walk-ins and the furthest out which to our convenience gave the dog plenty of room. Guest were friendly but there is no campfires on that specific side. However there restroom access almost everywhere and drinking water as well. We brought our telescope and ended up making friends with other guest also staying. Loved the family vibe and that after 10PM most guest were respectful with the noise levels so it was easy to lay down at bedtime. The bathrooms were the cleanest I’ve ever seen and they’re dispersed along with drinking water through the entire campground. So that was a plus for several reasons. Also outside of campground with 8-10 you have access to gas, groceries and shopping. Very well maintained and affordable. Really enjoyed the view, the guests we befriend, cleanliness, and accessibility from freeway. Great place for kids to be kids. Highly recommended will return again.
