Beautiful campground. Wonderful facilities. As good as a 4 or 5 star RV park. Fantastic for a USFS campground.

Our criticism is not of the Cagle Campground per se, but of the forest service. The campground host was very helpful, and the sites were nice and spacious. And the setting beautiful. But there is a dearth of online information with detailed maps of hiking trails and fishing spots. After a four-hour drive, we counted on getting good information there. But the ranger station on FM 1375 inexplicably is closed on weekends! Why? Only when asked, the woman at the campground guard station provided general printed information, no maps. Thankfully, the host found at least some material with very general maps, and had local knowledge of where to find bait and firewood. There's limited space to fish from the bank near the boat ramp, and no pier, with wakes making the water choppy, and weeds making it impossible to use lures. We wanted to hike at least a portion of the Lone Star Trail, ideally with a loop nearby. We found a segment from FM 1375 to Stubblefield and back (no loop), but it was a nice hike. Doing that, we found we also could fish at Stubblefield, which we tried briefly, with no luck. On Sunday, at the start of Spring Break, the forest service did prescribed burning right next to Cagle, with thick smoke filling the campground. We understand the need for this, but couldn't it have waited a week? Some campers left. We escaped to the Big Thicket for a day. On the way back, we checked out Double Lake near Coldspring, which advertised three fishing piers. But only one was standing, and the lake was overgrown with vegetation. On the Tuesday we left, we stopped at the ranger station. Bingo ... hiking trail maps. A helpful attendant told us about a portion of the Lone Star Trail that affords a loop. Which helped us not at all, as we were leaving. I asked another person why they closed weekends, and she said she wondered the same, that it was the superintendent's decision. She said there are some handouts outside at a drive-up station -- but no detailed hiking trail maps.

Pleasant volunteer camp host. Clean, quiet facility. Bathroom was well maintained. Walked down to the lake. Beautiful setting.

Great get away just sitting by the fire and enjoying nature. There is also fishing from the or a real nice boat landing if you have a boat. Beware of stumps but awesome fishing.

We loved the park; the trees, wooded paths, the lake were all beautiful. Very nice spacious RV sites. We only had 2 issues. The regulator for our water hookup was broke and nobody fixed it during our stay so we had to keep the water off when not using it, but not a huge deal. The other issue was dogs that barked almost non-stop.

I've lived in the Houston area for over 50 years and never knew of this place -- until recently. What a great location -- lots of East Texas pines, Lake Conroe in view and full RV hook-ups ! We will be back.

The place where the camp host lives looks like a dump ground. It rained for two days while we were there and we were still not allowed to have a camp fire. Whats camping without a camp fire. Did not enjoy the experience and probably wont return. Cagle needs rangers in the park.

Wonderful experience and an awesome place. close to city but far enough to experience nature, peaceful setting with campsites spaced far apart to provide privacy. Campground is clean and well kept and camp hosts check on your needs! Would welcome all to stay here!

Planned a camping trip for the family. Registration and reservations were easy to set up. The camp area is well kept, cleaned and safe. The staff is always ready to help and they great you to make sure everythings ok. My nephews loved it and would do it all over again. Do not bring firewood, they provide it. Check for burn bans as they sometimes apply and always follow the rules. We had so much fun, and the smores were delicious...
