Enjoyed site 5. The restroom is permanently closed at that location. Next restroom is several sites down.

Such a beautiful place. Campsites have trees between themwhich create privacy. The lake is wonderful for fishing, and the swimming hole is great fun for the kids when its open. Hiking around the lake is lovely, and riding mountain bikes on the bike trail is always a hit.

When I was young I came to this park as a Boy Scout. Then my father and I would come camp here, and countless day trips to fish the lake. So I wanted to bring my kids to experience this park. The campsites are just as I remembered, big and quiet. Perfect tent sites. But. The restroom that was closest to our site was closed. Its been closed for sometime now. Not a deal breaker. But. The lake itself was horrible. Couldnt fish because its all grown up with weeds. The only open water was out in the middle and inaccessible. Also we couldnt swim. The water had bacteria and leaches. Totally a let down. When the lake is the star of the show and you cant do anything with it its just a sad sad thing they let this lake get to this condition. And not receiving money to do anything about it. Just sad. Very sad.

Plenty of space at each site. Non electric sites still have access to a shared water faucet between two sites, very helpful. It was a beautiful peaceful experience. We'll definitely be back. One set of restrooms still out if order near campsite 5 so make plans around that.

We had a wonderful stay! The campsite was just perfect. We are usually visiting for a day to ride mountain bikes. The marking on the trails are somewhat confusing, it would be great if all the signs had an option for shortest way to parking lot. Sometimes we are riding in circles or away from parking lot which add miles, what is (usually) okay for us. But families with children or riders with cramp will appreciate the option for shortest way out.

We love Double Lake recreation area very much!! And we will definately be back for more camping.

Camped in site 5 of the primitive loop. Beautiful site, well maintained and direct access to a small fishing platform and the walking trail that goes around the lake. Why 4 stars? Multiple non-functional or only partially functional bathroom facilities. I booked site 5 because it is directly across from a bathroom and I didn't want my camping buddy to be walking far in the dark/cold for a midnight potty visit, but it was closed. We drove to the bathrooms by the lodge but they were closed as well. Found open facilities by the campground host which we used for the first day of our trip but having to pack up toiletries and drive to the other side of the campground every time you needed the loo is a pain. The facilities by the beach concession stand are open, we used those until we found the ones up the road from us, by site 18. Great campsite but worrying about how you're going to go to the bathroom definitely puts a damper on a trip! Hoping next time they will all be repaired and open.

Beautiful campground in the forest. When we went there in mid-March some of the restrooms and other amenities were closed, maybe due to COVID or maybe the season. Everyone there seemed very respectful of the rules. No one was too loud. Campgrounds nicely spaced apart and campsite was great! We did enjoy the hike to the scenic area trailhead on the Lone Star Hiking Trail, and my husband enjoyed the biking trails. Sadly, we had to leave a day early due to heavy rains in the forecast.

Great place to stay! We loved that the campsites are large and mostly private. Unfortunately, the bathrooms right across from our site were out of order but it wasnt a long trek to get to the next ones. Wish quiet hours were enforced as we listened to people have loud fun until the wee hours of the morning. We ran out of firewood but our camp hosts were great. Glad we could buy some from them for $5 a bundle. There arent really any hiking trails. They have some good trails for biking but the only places to walk are the campsite loops and a loop around the lake which is poorly maintained (mostly paved but incredibly uneven due to uprooted trees and old age). Over all, we had a great time and will definitely return.

The facilities were well cared for. The host and park manager were very helpful and friendly. We have been camping there for 22 years now. As always very quiet and peaceful.

Only got to stay one night but the site was perfect for two people. The fire pit grill was perfect for a cast iron dinner. The site was spacious and right by the lake with the trail. Will definitely return soon to camp again!
