We stayed mid-week so campground was very quiet. A few things felt like they could use some TLC but overall we enjoyed our stay. We were unable to see many pictures so did not know what to expect. We did not use the restrooms or showers so can't comment on those buildings.

Always a wonderful escape from day to day life. Peaceful and secluded yet close enough for a day trip. great staff, both friendly and helpful. good trails, close to the lone star hiking trail and a lake for canoes or kayaks. very dog friendly.

The park isn't as busy in the winter time but they had a couple of very large groups there that left early due to rain. One host said around 180 tent groups with lots of children. Even after the group left I was so impressed with how clean the restrooms were. Of course the facilities are old, but they are very well maintained with the hostess group in place.

I absolutely love this park! The only issue is some of the sites are so sloped it is nearly impossible to get your RV level.

We always love camping at Double Lake. We get a pull-through with full hookups which makes it great.

Howdy,
We're new to rv'ing but not to camping. The majority of our camping has been in this Sam Houston national forest and we love it.
Double lake is a real treat because it's the best of both worlds.

Great campground. Slight leveling needed. Quiet and peaceful area. Town of Cleveland is about 18 miles away. Used the Walgreens for getting our mail through Fedx. Town has most needed stores and eateries if needed. The town of Coldspring has stores also for needed items and is closer.
Area has a well maintained beach. We would stay again. Cell coverage isn't the best at 1-2 bars on AT&T and poor OTA TV.
14 day max stay. Part of the Sam Houston National Forest.

The entrance and interior roads were all asphalt and provided easy access to the campground. Site 36 is a pull-through, but even the back-ins were very generous in size and left plenty of room between sites. Each site has a nice patio with an extra long picnic table, lantern pole, and fire pit. Our site had 50 amp Electricity, Water, and Sewer hook-ups - all utilities were very conveniently located and in good working order. Not all sites have full hook-ups, but there is also a dump station available. There were several sites that I would call “buddy sites” meaning they were very intentionally side by side for friends or families to share space.
The lake is small, but offers nice kayaking, fishing, and has both a swim beach and lakeside trail. The trail is in need of some maintenance as the asphalt has deteriorated and has several places where felled trees have uprooted the trail causing it to be unusable. There were other trails for hiking and biking that were forested earth pathways that were lovely. All trails had wildlife throughout.
Due to CoVid, all group facilities are closed temporarily and we did not use the restrooms which were open, so I can not speak to those facilities. This campground is in the forest - we did not even try to use our Dish Satellite. Verizon and AT&T - two bars.
Coldspring, only a few miles from the campground, is a real “Mayberry” kind of town. Saturday we attended the farmers market on the square on all sides of the county courthouse and listened to the Bluegrass played from one of the quaint antique stores just across the street. We had lunch on the square and poked around the great little shops.
