Always a good time staff attentive to needs and easy to communicate with. Warm lights on in bathhouse. Option of corral for horses to roll. Trails maintained well

Love the campground and usually no issues. Lots of beautiful horses while there this time. However there were a few campers that let their dogs roam the campground off leash without supervision. The dogs were even fighting with each other and the owners would just continue to yell. Few of them kept coming in to our sites. One actually growled at us when it came in to our site

While Canebrake Horse Camp has been a favorite for many years, the recent appearance of non-equestrian campers is highly disappointing and concerning. Within Uwharrie, Canebrake is 1 of 2 campgrounds where we can make reservations & be ensured we have a place to park with the necessary amenities needed (the other campground is privately owned). Over the last several trips, we have experienced an increase of ATV campers (decreasing availability to horse camp sites), children riding bikes and kicking balls through camp (major safety hazzard), motorized scooters being ridden through (again, a safety issue)....none of which were camping with horses. While I certainly encourage people to enjoy the Uwharrie forest, I deeply wish our horse camp grounds could be reserved for equestrians only. There are several non-horse campgrounds to accommodate those that wish to enjoy the forest without horses. Rest assured, if we showed up in those other campgrounds with a horse, we would be asked to leave. I feel that same consideration isn't shared towards Canebrake Horse Camp. In addition to the non-horse campers, there has been an incredible decline in the care & upkeep of this campground over the last several months. Manure pits nearly overflowing from one week to the next (major insect problem, excessive moisture will only rot the pits that were built by BCHU, not to mention a lack of room for responsible campers to deposit manure from their sites prior to check-out), broken wheel barrows & no manure forks (making it difficult for campers to do their part & clean after themselves), and sites being occupied upon arrival and not marked that there is a standing reservations are just a few of the issues that I'm afraid will ultimately cost the Forestry Service valuable revenue from the equestrian community. It's my sincere hopes that this review doesn't fall on deaf ears as so many in the past have.

We love it here! We come down from PA in February with our 2 horses and 2 dogs. Sites are set up good for tie out or electric pens. Trails are well marked in most areas and impressed with the care of the trails from year to year. The fact that we can take the dogs on trail is a big plus. This is a great winter escape and quite place to camp.

Canebrake is great as a horse camp. Love the host, tie out spots and shower houses. Very close to home and a great spot to take the horses for a quick weekend get away. Will continue to come there and camp with my horses.
