Well spaced sites. Great hiking close by. Within easy drive to Brevard and Hendersonville as well as groceries and restaurants.

The park was lovely and we had a great time. hiked to several water falls. Laughing falls in the area is almost inaccessable as the minimal parking area is blocked and signs indicate that parked vehicles will be towed. The trail to it is very wet and overgrown.

When we reserved our campsites, we couldn't get a site for both nights. I had to reserve one for Fri and one for Sat. When we arrived I asked if there was any way to get one site so that we didn't have to break down and set back up. The staff was able to make that happen due to some cancellations (bad weather). Made it a lot easier on us!

Great campground with easy access to multiple places to entertain yourself in the outdoors. Restrooms, showers, and the grounds were clean. Staff very considerate and friendly. Have stayed here many times.

We had a great time camping and found it to be a pretty peaceful place to stay. (We didnt have issues with loud campers nearby or loud music as in other recent posts. We actually found everyone to be very friendly and kept pretty quiet.) A few things we wish we knew before went include: (1) the tent pad was made of gravel which was very compacted. It was pretty difficult to get stakes into the ground...several from our new tent bent. (2) A few others mentioned it but its good to know that during the off season there is only one bathroom open in the campground loop. So it was a little walk for our family but nothing to unbearable. Just be ready to hop on a bike when the bathroom on your loop is closed for cleaning and the loop next to you has a closed bathroom too. ;) (3) Nearby road noise: I knew there was a road nearby but was surprised by the amount of car noise we heard going by throughout the night. It was just the first night but it kept us up a little...may have just been heightened awareness in a new place. The river next to us helped though by night two. It became much more peaceful and seemed to block out noise more. (4) The trees were quite cut back but it was a necessity due to disease and infestation. Our spot was in full sun due to the clearing of the trees. We were able to put a hammock between a few trees but most everything on our site was in the sun with nearby shade at the river. All in all, I would go back and would love to experience DRC in the later summer. The weather was nice and some rain came (it is a rainforest after all) but we were able to mountain bike and hike everyday in either Pisgah or DuPont. We loved cooking over the campfire and felt safe our entire time there.
