We were only able to stay one night (Dogwood) so from our limited time here, this is what we experienced.
The campsites seem to be spaced enough apart to give you a somewhat secluded feel. It is very quiet, there are trees everywhere and you are basically nestled in the National Forest. We were able to reserve a campsite that had electric hookups which was super important for us but not all campsites have electric so make sure to book the ones that have an âeâ associated with them if youâre in need of electric. There was no water or sewer hookups at our campsite (not sure if any have them) but they had a fresh water station upon entry so we filled our fresh water tank and were set up for the night, and a dump station that we were able to access upon leaving.
There was also no cell phone reception. This was no big deal for us because we were there to relax and enjoy nature but if you need to get work done, make sure you have a plan. I did notice people using their cell phones out by the ranger station where they were able to get reception and there is also a town down the road where service kicks back to normal.
This campground also had nature trails out by the ranger station that we didnât have time to enjoy but notice people walking and riding their bikes in that direction. There are public restrooms and the campsites have fire pits and a tables.
Overall we were very happy with our stay and have added it to our favorites list. I would recommend.
I checked in on Sunday 1/10 after dark. I set up camp the next day Mon 1/11. I slept in the next morning on Tues 1/12 until about 10 am. By 12 noon, a white Jeep with an A-liner trailer had set up at the end of my row. By 1 pm, another truck and camp trailer setup right NEXT to ME. WHY? All, absolutely ALL the other campsites were open except one. The camper said he reserved that exact spot the day before, for two days. He wasnât going to move until I said âyouâre encroaching on my privacy.â Did I forget to mention, Iâm a female camping alone?! He was wise and moved down by the other man with the Jeep & trailer who ended up helping him set up his camp. I found that very odd. Men donât usually do that, unless they know each other. By 1:30 pm, a 3rd truck with camp trailer set up near me at the top of the loop. I was okay with their social distance. The Jeep guy had two female friends show up with bikes. As I was prepping & eating lunch, the Threesome invited the solo interloper on their bike ride. The now foursome rode over to the bath house and spoke to the newest couple at the top of the loop. All at once, 6 sets of eyes flashed my way. I was VERY uncomfortable. All 6 left on bike rides. Every one was back around 5:30 pm. I was getting warm in my car. By 6 oâclock, another car was setting up camp directly across from me. I felt so uncomfortable with the crowd forming on a Tues that I gave up my PAID campsite from 1/12 thru 1/19 = 8 nites x $34/night = $272 financial loss
Iâm not sure if Iâd camp here again. Not alone at least. I have resentment toward these 3 groups of campers that checked in before 2 pm and made me very uncomfortable at my campsite.
