We had a great weekend on Big John Loop. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. The bathroom was clean. The campsite was ready to go when we arrived.

We've stayed at Lake Powhatan many times and have always had a great experience. The staff is friendly, the sites and bathroom are kept neat, and the quick access to excellent mountain bike trails are a major bonus. We'll definitely be back.

Campsite and grounds were awesome! The only problem I had was with the water supply not working. I mentioned it to the front gate personnel but it must have never been addressed. You had to really play with the handle and spout to get it to work.

Tent camped on site 13. The site was very clean and well maintained before arrival. The site itself is in a good location, with no one behind or to the right (looking at the site), which made for quiet atmosphere. The host on our loop was very nice and helpful. No bear boxes on our loop, but saw ones on other loops. I would definitely utilize the same site again, but also thought site 8 was a good location for a tent. We drove around the entire campground and the glamping tents looked nice, but did not see them inside. Very close to Asheville and easy to get in/out campground to other things (if that interests you). Ingles close by and a discount shoe place you must check out! Hope this helps!

One of the best national forest campgrounds I've stayed at. From the time we arrived, the staff was very informative and friendly. Most sites are spacious and level. The staff was very quick in getting sites cleaned up and ready for the next guests, and bathrooms were kept clean as well. The campground was nearly full, yet very quite during our 3 day stay. If you're wanting to spend time in Asheville, the location couldn't be more perfect, and yet, you're still tucked away into a beautiful forest. We are already planning on coming back next year!

If you don't mind campground staff rifling through your gear, this campground has a lot going for it. There are no bear proof containers on site and the closest trash container was not bear secure and the top was already bent open. We had 6 containers on our site, 3 Rtic coolers (bear proof according to the reviews) and 3 snap lid containers. The only containers that had food were 2 Rtic coolers and they were confiscated by the campground staff and a note was left. The only way they knew to take those specific coolers had to be by opening all the containers. In addition, the website states that 2 vehicles and 1 trailer are included in the campsite fee. We were told that since our 22 foot camp trailer has 2 axles, it would count as the second vehicle unless we paid an extra surcharge.

Lake Powhatan Campground is situated convenient to all things Asheville while offering a beautiful, quiet, natural camping experience. Bathrooms include showers.If you happen to need (or want) to shop, a nice outlet mall is just up the road. The North Carolina Arboretum is practically next door; designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, you don't want to miss it. The Biltmore Estate is worth a day unto itself. Everything from the house to the gardens and the conservatory to the village is impeccably maintained. The history is fascinating. You won't be disappointed. If you're a hiker, the trails around Lake Powhatan and the surrounding area are numerous and vary in difficulty; something for everyone.

We loved our campsite. It was clean, level and large enough for our 30 ft RV. There is plenty of space between sites for privacy. The host were so friendly and helpful. The restrooms were clean and well maintained. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is just down the road.

The hosts were cordial and knowledgeable. The site was as advertised and very nice. Bathrooms were spotless. I will definitely go back again next summer.
