We like Powhatan because of its easy access from Asheville and I-26. We had a nice private tent site #059 on the Hard Times loop. Good flat area for our tent, nice fire ring, shepherd's hook all there. The bath house was clean and accessible easily from our site. Check-in people and other staff very friendly. We had to leave early due to the rain forecast, otherwise would have stayed. Our only complaint is the number of dogs in the sites around us...although they did quit barking once night came.

Nice campground close to Asheville and good hiking spots. Sites are good size with large picnic tables. The only downside was the bathrooms...there are flush toilets, sinks, and showers, so the amenities are nice, but there was always a long line for the bathrooms because there were only two toilets/sinks for an entire campground loop.

Our tent site was very nice: clean, well laid-out, flat, near to water pump and bathrooms. The grill grate was set higher than we expected so our charcoal fire did not reach high enough to cook our raw meat, so that is good to know. We went out and bought a little Weber for the cooking and used the campfire ring for ambiance. Next time we will throw some of our own firewood in the back of our car to use, since the firewood for purchase there is convenient but a bit expensive. The tent site is all gravel, so you must have a thick pad for your sleeping bag, if not a cot. We hiked about 7-8 miles of the great trails each day. Different terrain, all beautiful. The All-Trails app was helpful to navigate our way since the system is complex.
