This was our first time at Lake Powhatan, and we were very dissappointed at the size of the lake (we were expecting a lake, not a pond). That being said, everything else about it was great. It was very convenient location to get to the NC Arboretum and Blue Ridge Parkway. We were at site 31 for 2 days, and then moved to site 31. Both were good sized and pretty level. 31 did not have power, and the loop was therefore a lot less crowded. 21 in Big John Loop had more campers, but was still quiet and private feeling. The bathrooms/showers were centrally located in the middle of the loops, and were easy to access.

We enjoyed our stay at Lake Powhatan. The campground and bathhouse was well maintained. We liked the easy access to the hiking trails. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a great place to go camping and still have all the main amenities close by. The bathrooms where near to the site and were clean. Camping sites are a little too close for my taste but all the trees around provides privacy. The lake was a bit far from our camp site, but the view of the lake is beautiful, and fishing was very fun. Easy camping. Camping Site 31

Lake Powhatan's location is very convenient if you are visiting Asheville. The national forest is beautiful and quiet, just a few miles drive from downtown Asheville. In early May, the campground was clean and comfortable. Adequate clean bathrooms. Lots of hiking trails located within the campground and within the national forest. Friendly campground staff were helpful and welcoming. Quite a gem considering its urban proximity.
