I love this campground. Its so clean, spacious, and peaceful. Ive seen here several times, with my dog, and this time I met up with some other family members and they enjoyed it as well. It was so nice coming back at the end of a long day to be able to stretch out, relax, and enjoy each others company. This trip we went to the Arboretum and Dupont recreation area. I highly recommend both.

It was my first time camping in the staff at the front gate was very knowledgeable and very patient. They explained exactly how it all worked. The campsite itself was easily navigable and scenic. Not to mention the bathrooms and the showers, which were convenient and very clean. I highly recommend this campsite, especially for any first timers.

Love this campsite. So well maintained a volunteers at the front desk are also friendly . The sites are laid out in such a way that you may be next to someone, but youre not right on top of them and the trees provide adequate privacy. And not to mention the clean bathrooms in the showers. This trip we went to the Dupont recreational area, which is a little less than an hour away. Four different trails and 4 for waterfalls. I highly recommend it.

We had a nice, large, flat site that was close to the bathroom; however, several other sites had to walk directly through/against our site to reach the bathroom. That is a weird set-up that I've never seen at any other campground and it is not mentioned on the website. The bathhouse was kept very clean but having extremely loud air dryers with campsites so close was sometimes annoying. With so many campsites in one loop, and only a few seeming to be RV only, having only 2 showers and 2 toilets is crazy. When it rained there was absolutely NO drainage on our site. Also, our site was one of only few on the whole loop that didn't include a bear box--which would be nice to have as the bears were out nearly every day we were there. The beach area was also disappointing. The "swimming" area (which wasn't actually deep enough to swim in) was very small. Hiking trails are abundant but also very crowded. Overall it's a beautiful park and location, and the staff was very nice. The weather just wasn't very cooperative while we were there.

Lake Powhatan was a great place to take our little ones on their first camping trip! The facilities were clean, staff was super friendly and helpful, and the campground is well maintained. Plenty of trails to explore, close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and NC Arboretum, and close enough to town without the noise or traffic. We will be back!

One of the cleanest campsites weve been to in awhile. We had sites 24 and 25. Site 25 is more private and large enough for two standard size tents. The only downfall about 24 is campers have to walk through that site to get to the rest room. Other than that, they were clean, very well maintained, and spacious. We would rent those sites again. The staff was incredibly friendly! Check in was a breeze and pleasant. Were coming back!

Beautiful campground and the nicest staff I have ever experienced. There were bears in the area! But the staff was diligent about instructing us on what to do if a bear came near our campsite, and they also patrolled regularly. We were gone for the day and left our cooler out in camp. Not only did they take the cooler and store it indoors for us, they made a point to leave a note and call to tell us so we didn't think our cooler was stolen. Unbelievably courteous. The campsites are generously sized, and the bathrooms are clean and well-maintained.In the local area, there is so much to do. There are dozens of hiking trails leaving from right around the campground. Several of our group had a great time tubing on the river, which is just 10 minutes away. In addition, we had a group rock climbing in Pisgah, which was only 30 minutes away. Then finished off the day at sliding rock. So many things to do, I wish we could have spent more time enjoying the campground at Lake Powhatan!

Lake Powhatan was a great place to camp. The camp hosts were so friendly when we first arrived. The site was big. We enjoyed the time we spent there. A couple things that werent 100%: I dont know if the bathrooms were cleaned while we were there. There was a constant layer of mud on the floor. We tried to go for hikes and unfortunately because of all of the mountain biking trails and so many unmarked trails, we had a hard time determining where we could go. The map was not very good. Lastly, we bought a load of wood from the camp hosts at 9.00 a bundle!! Thats outrageous.

The reason I'm leaving a 2 star review is because of the camp manager that day. She was rude & condescending when I asked for some help in regards to a site that I accidentally chose. When I first asked for help she said a little annoyingly that I need to call rec.gov. Unfortunately they could not help because of the camp's same day change policy so they told me I had to call the camp back. I called back and told her this and she was so incredibly rude about it it almost seemed like she thought I was making it up. Anyway, it was a small request that I kindly asked some help for and she made us feel like such a inconvenience that we just left the camp and found somewhere else to stay.I know we can't control how people act & react, but a little kindness doesn't hurt. The site was nice & clean & close to the bathroom. I would come probably come here again but if that lady is there again, I'm turning around.
