Very nice campsites. They are not overly huge but for the most part, comfortable size but what was so nice (at least in our loop) was that each one has trees/bushes on the sides so it makes it a little more private. It is not like your next door neighbor can look over into your site or camper. Noticed a couple 'double sites' which are nice if camping with relatives. We sometimes camp with our son and his family. Overall very quiet. The campground is very nice and we plan on returning at some time. Would be nice if there were no exterior lights at the bathhouse and/or had sensors on the inside lights. Some campsites (especially sites on the inside of the loop) are right in view of the bathrooms and have light shining all night long. Some parks have sensors for the inside llights that turn on when there is movement. (There are large side windows that shine on the campsite and stay on when a person does not turn them off before leaving the bathroom). Possibly a duller bulb for outside would help with the outside lights. With nice weather I like having windows and shades open all night but this allows the light to shine in the camper and makes it harder to sleep. It also prevents us from stargazing as you can't see the stars as well. We sometimes bring our telescope but luckily we didn't this time.Don't know how much usage it gets but a little work on the beach area would be nice. Wasn't super appealing but since we had rain and cooler weather we didn't use it; just walked down there to take a peek. Could only see about 4 feet from shore and then the water got very dark. Does it get that deep only 4 feet from shore? The beach area was a mix of sand and grass popping up. Very close to some breweries in Asheville such as Bold Rock (our favorite). About 20 minutes to downtown Asheville. We had major issues with cell coverage. Nothing on the first few days. No wifi coverage in the park. We did get a little cell coverage on the last day.

Gorgeous trees. Kind, gracious people managing the campground.

The campground was very busy and the hosts did a great job trying to keep up with the facilities.

Spacious, private site. Shower facility was clean but low water pressure. Water stream was so close to the wall, it was difficult to wash and rinse.

Great Site, Trails and Staff there. Also has a great set up with bathrooms and showers.

Have stayed at this campground several times and always enjoy it. Conveniently located near Asheville shopping and restaurants but still very much a national forest camping experience.

Visited 7-22 & 7-23-2023: campsite was large enough and clean but there was no water hookup which I assumed was included with Standard Electric rate and no warning about lack of RV water hookup in the Important Information notices about the campsite (1st time visiting). So we couldn't use the shower or toilet in our RV as i had not filled our fresh water tank for boondocking. We were near the restrooms which had hot showers but they were set up for individual use--lock the door. This became inconvenient in the mornings as there were only 2 bathrooms and 2 showers for that part of the campground which was insufficient for the number of campers! Otherwise, campsite was in a nicely wooded area and well-staffed with campground hosts to answer our questions. Lake Powhatan is more of a pond with no boating or floats allowed so we went to nearby Lake Julian Park to use the paddleboats.

Nice campground with pretty sites. Could really use more bathrooms for the number of sites in each loop.

Sites were very nice and clean. The staff were great and the campground was well kept. Great hiking trails nearby and well marked.

Great location, very very clean, hosts manicure the sites and get them ready for you. Just top-notch people working there. Always impressed by staff, cleanliness. Other campers have also always been courteous and friendly.
....so please fix the water pressure in the showers.... Would also be nice to be able to control the heat in the shower room; a simple on/off would work or a better thermostat. It gets really really hot in there.

We were told before arriving that we had to fill our water tanks & that there were plenty of water faucets throughout the grounds. When we got there they had been turned OFF Same goes for the dump station!!
Had they told us this before hand we probably wouldn't have stayed there. We did like that the bathrooms & showers were heated.

The staff is very friendly. The bathrooms and showers are immaculate. The grounds always look well kept. It’s the reason why we camp here quite often

I camp in Lake Powhatten 6-8 times a year. Usually its a 5 star experience. This trip just had a different feel. The firepit had half a tree in it and the other half laying in the gravel. There were also burnt batteries, dental pick and other refuse around the area of the firepit. Clearly this site was missed during clean up.

Additionally people kept cutting through our campsite. Literally right through it. This site could use some trees or shrubs planted to keep people out.

otherwise its a beautiful area with nice trails and usually a fairly quiet area.

Only one lane through the gate and they don't move the big RVs over and check them in so if you leave the park and come back with your pass, you can't just drive by as they check in a camper. You may have to wait 20 minutes as they check in two cars in front of me. I just wanted to come back and put the rain fly on my tent but I had to sit and wait. Most of the SC state parks have two lanes so if you are already checked in, you can not wait in line.
Also, I was near the bath house and they keep the lights on outside the bath house all night long. So if you tent camp, there is no darkness- just light through your tent. I wish they would put up motion activated lights instead of just leaving the lights on all night.

This was my third time staying at Lake Powhatan. It is always a wonderful experience. The campsites are clean and well-maintained. The hiking trails within the campground are short but scenic when you get to the lake. And there are many more hiking trail options nearby in the Pisgah forest. Showers and bathroom facilities are kept very clean. Staff is friendly and check-in/out is very easy.

The campground is less than 20 minutes from downtown Asheville. There are so many things to do in downtown Asheville such as breweries (we liked Burial and Wicked Weed), cute shops, the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, and so many restaurants (Little Bee, Early Girl, Laughing Seed, etc.). The river arts district is even closer - we liked Wedge brewery and walking around to look at the murals at the Foundation Walls. West Asheville is a cool area to walk around too - I recommend the farmers market and Biscuit Head.

Basically, you will not be disappointed if you stay at Lake Powhatan!

This was me and my husband's first time vising Lake Powhatan and had no idea where anything was. We found the ranger station and they were friendly and helpful pointing us in the right direction. They helped us find a location to camp for a couple nights and we had an over all amazing couple days. Will definitely be visiting again soon. We did do part of one hiking trail called the "Coffee Pot Trail." It's a moderate trail, has some river crossings, so bring water shoes, and has options for making the hike longer depending on if you switch trails, like we did. Take a map or have some way to keep track of what trail you're on if you're not familiar with the area.

A really nice park to visit! We didn’t get to see everything since we stayed overnight for a stop enroute. Trails were very pretty and so was the location. I was surprised to see how many hikers and bikers there were on the trail.

Some of the sites were closed down. Word of caution for big rig RVs. We have a 39’ toy hauler and the roads and site loops are very tight and back in only. We were able to navigate without incident. The dump site was the tightest turn to get in and out of.

Electric only! However they have fill up sites near the camp sites and fresh water at the dump station.

We would have liked to stay longer. No sites open

It was perfect! Great view of the lake, SEVERAL hiking trails, and me and my college roommate went by ourselves and felt very safe there.
