I only stayed one night here but I loved it! The gate attendants were so nice and helpful. The site I had was very nice and well maintained. Somewhat close to surrounding sites but it still felt private. Bathrooms were nice (I did not use the showers but they were individual rooms). Only negative was my site was pretty narrow. I had a non-electric pull through and the best spot to level it got me pretty close to the picnic table (the base is made of concrete so no moving it) and I could not set out my main awning. Ended up putting my sitting area on the back side of the trailer. Again very minor, if really at all, negative but there are some limitations on site setup. Since I was there only 1 night I didnt do much exploring but Looking Glass Falls in the National Forest was about a 40 minute drive and definitely worth it!

The permanent tent sits on Hardtimes loop have attracted a noisy lot. Competing sites trying to blast music over the top of of each other and children spitting on pedestrians walking the loop. Dogs barking all night... I'll not be back.

Great well kept campground with lots of good things to do. Very close to Asheville, NC, which has loads of breweries, restaurants and stores.

This location was beautiful and had clean bathrooms and showers! In addition, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would 100% stay here again.

Really nice place, deep in the forest full of fall color. Loved that but my RV site was too small for me to pull through my 25 trailer. Site 87 should not be assigned to medium to large trailers. I had to back in and that was tight.

Campground was clean and well managed. Would like to have better trail maps to handout. The beach area had a lot of goose poop. Not good for kids to play there.

Had a chilly and windy stay but as always the campground was well maintained and the gate staff were helpful. Only downside is how expensive the wood bundles are, enough wood for 2 nights was nearly as much as the site fee.

Somehow I managed to pick a great spot online. Loved the campground. Did not realize how popular the Day Use area could get on a hot summer's day. The nearby NC Arboretum was a great way to spend an afternoon. Bike and hiking trails connected the both. The weekday camping crowd was great. Weekend campers by the most part followed the rules.

Lake Powhatan is a great place to get together with friends who may not be outfitted for camping, but want to try it out. We reserved a standard site, and two other families with us went for the glamping option. Everyone had a great time, and we're planning another trip in the spring.

While this campground is well equipped and maybe perfect for a quiet couple it is absolutely not suited for anyone interested in having any fun or socializing with their group at night. While we were out one Saturday afternoon we had all of our coolers confiscated by staff for leaving them out. While we realize this was technically our fault they certainly could have handled it nicer. They also went through all of our belongings while we were gone and even left someones tent open to be rained in. They were very rude to our group upon checking back in. We went back to our sites and were talking by the fire at 9:45 pm and a golf cart rolled up saying we had used up our one and only chance with the cooler incident and that Sheriffs would be called if they could hear us one inch off the gravel pad. We are a group of 12, all over the age of 30. We were not being rambunctious, just trying to sit by a fire and enjoy each others company. They could have simply given us a friendly reminder of quiet hours and driven off, instead they were extremely aggressive and told us they would evict us if they heard one more peep and threatened police presence when we were extremely cooperative. Horrible expreien not come here with friends, period.
