The site was exceptionally clean and prepared for our arrival. Deedee (check-in attendant) was especially welcoming and a highlight of our visit!

Lake Powhatan delivers beauty in the surroundings, the facilities are super clean and the staff are the nicest I have ever interacted with at any Recreation.gov facility. It is close to several attractions, mtn. biking is amazing and hiking directly from your camp spot. Love this place.

Great campground, simple in the best way. It has your hook ups and walking trails but not all the extra fluff that takes away from, what I consider, camping. Theres the lake you can swim or fish!

We had a wonderful 3 day weekend stay at Powhatan. We were on a double site with family. Our site was level and spacious, with full hookups. We live in Hendersonville, so Powhatan is convenient for us as a camping destination--allowing us to easily get our daughter to swim practices in Arden and also allowing our non-camping family to visit and celebrate our mom's birthday. Even though we were close to home, we felt far away in such a peaceful, well-maintained, location. The staff were friendly and I was told by family that the bath houses were clean. My husband was a lifeguard at the lake in the late 80's, but we had never camped there before. We definitely will again!

This is an amazingly well kept campground. Proximity to Asheville (10 minutes), yet it is forested and very quiet. The loudest noise was from the two canadian geese on the lake. Lots of trails in and around the park. The lake is clean. The facilities are kept very clean, bathrooms are well stocked, and the staff comes in behind a departing camper and makes the campsite clean. The staff even goes so far as to clean the firepit. All the roads in the park are well paved as well as each site. This park is in better condition than many of the national forest parks near the national parks in Montana and Wyoming. Highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed

Site 045 = Double Site - This drive through site wasperfect for camping with our friends. It had two water, electric and sewer hook ups for our two campers. If we had gotten creative, we could have figured a way to park the rvs and still get both trucks out. Instead, we had one truck trapped between the two rvs with no way out...oh well. It worked out fine. The park staff was very friendly and informative. The park was lovely with walking trails, a beautiful lake and beach. Th. bathroom facility was heated and clean. It was close to Asheville and all that it has to offer. We will definitely be back!

Great campground. Friendly staff. If you're pulling an RV the pull thru sites are nice rather than backing in. But all sites are spacious. Several Parkway destinations close by: NC Arboretum, Craggy Gardens, Folk Art Center (must see) and the Parkway Visitor Center.

Great week spent at Lake Powhatan. Lakeside loop site 45 with fill hookups (sewer in a state park, what a luxury!), is a nearly level family site and had more than enough room for our 38 class A motorhome plus toad and sisters truck and 28 travel trailer. Private with lots of space between sites, didnt use bathhouse but sister said it was clean, nice walking trails, friendly and helpful park staff and overall good roads with well trimmed trees so no low hanging branches to worry about. Second week in April weather had cold at nights (low 30s), comfortable blue skied days (upper 50s-low 60s) and only one rainy day. Rangers notified us of a bear siting, never saw one though. Highly recommend a stroll through the adjacent North Carolina Arboretum. Nearby Biltmore Park has tasty bbq and vegan dishes at Luellas Bar-B-Que and decent pizza at Brixx. Close to Ashevilles Biltmore Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The park is at the end of a narrow, moderately winding two lane road (there is one sharp turn but very doable on our 38er with toad). Signage to the park is limited. After driving through a residential area, Google pinned the park about a half a mile before the actual entrance. We thought we were lost and slowly crept along looking for a turn-off to unhook so we could somehow turn the rig around. Finally we saw a sign saying entrance ahead, whew! We will definitely stay at Lake Powhatan again!

Wonderful campground adjacent to NC state arboretum and tons of trails. Very disappointed that the lake is closed to kayaks and canoes. No rational explanation. I checked with forest service and they said it shoukd be open...

Love the location. Sites are distanced and secluded. The hiking trails are just a quick walk from your site. Full hookups at these prices are amazing.

Lake Powhatan was a great experience. The campground was clean and quiet with an abundance of hiking/biking trails nearby and also a very nice lake. The bathrooom/shower facilities were clean and warm. We were a little late getting away and the host was great about it. We would definitely stay there again.
