Very pleasantly surprised. My favorite of three national park campgrounds on this trip. Although i did not find a utility wash sink I was pleasantly surprised to have showers at our restroom, large private stalls, and working bear boxes. The facilities were well maintained, friendly staff, and ice and firewood for sale on arrival at the gate. excellent experience. **bonus nearby 'in town' restaurants, conveniences, cell service and the stunning North Carolina Arboretum

Lake Powhatan is relaxing and has bear boxes located right next to the tables for ease of getting food. Don is a nice guy who is there 8am to 8pm if you need help. Wonderful place! Loved the fishing too!

One of the campsites that are at the top of our list to go to. The place is immaculate and quiet, and they have the friendliest staff. The bathrooms are always clean and smell good. The area is safe and relaxing.

We were really pleased with this campsite. We're a family of 5 with kids ages 8, 6, and 3. This was a nice site, with no one to the right or behind. On the left there was enough tree coverage that gave some privacy between us and the site to the left. We felt like it had good coverage on the front for privacy too. Compared to some others we saw as we walked around, we were happy with the seclusion this site offered (some others seemed too open for passers-by to peer in). We had a big 10-person tent and a 10x10 canopy. For the canopy to fit well over the picnic table and not be over the campfire, we had to move it over enough which put it on uneven ground, but we just shortened the legs on one side. The site is close to a water spicket. Overall we really liked this site and would choose it again. The lake was nice, but the sand was too hard and rocky to use the beach umbrellas we brought. We couldn't dig a hole deep enough. Others we saw used those flappy tarp sun shades, which I believe doesn't need to go as deep in the ground. This is a nice campground. Next time we hope to bring bikes!

Park clean, bathrooms and showers as well. Tents have to be on gravel so our set up was tight with 2 tents. You cannot out floats or your own kayak/SUP on the lake which was a bummer. We came with plans to fish but when we got there it was closed because of a kid fish day that Saturday. Wish that was not communicated ahead of time or we would've camped elsewhere. The camp is less than 15 min from Zen tubing which we we enjoyed:) Quiet hours were truly that and it was perfect sleeping atmosphere. Lots of trails.

Great location, this was my family’s first time camping. We felt safe, everything we needed was available as far as a bathroom near by showers and more firewood. The staff the extremely kind and helpful. We will be back soon for the beach.
