Nice quite spot, clean, but narrow roads

Amazing park! Very friendly staff, clean bathrooms and beautiful private sites. Our only complaint is the pricey green firewood that is advertised as kiln dried. Bought two bundles and they would not burn. Went to Home Depot.

New favorite place to camp. The NC Arboretum was amazing and had great trails.

We took our RV for two nights in October. Sites 52 and 56. Both were fairly level and had nice privacy, with good access to super clean restrooms with warm water and an included shower. The fire pit and bench are well located by the site and we enjoyed both. In the morning we walked to the lake to get to know the area, super peaceful. In the afternoon we did a longer hike over to the Arboretum and back. Super convenient that the recreation area is connected via hikes to the arboretum. Nice hike! And there are so many other hikes to explore. The restrooms were always clean, which we appreciated so much, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. No Verizon access whatsoever at the sites, but a little throughout other areas and the check in area has free wifi they allow you to connect to.

Close to Asheville and the arboretum, this is a convenient campground. You feel like you are very far from everything but it is an easy drive to town/groceries/gas/restaurants. Although we did not use the bathhouse, they were nice and clean. We stayed on a FHU site in Lakeside loop w NO cell connection, but we were connecting randomly as we walked through the park. The sites are spacious and wooded. I would advise to arrive and set up before dark- very dark winding roads through the park. We would stay here again.

Disappointed in the lack of sites available with electric when many not being used. Why can't they be rented when no one is there? The place seems to be disorganized as all communication must go online and gate helpers can't help ,

This heavily used park offers great hiking and biking trails, including an easy hike to the arboretum. However, we had a concerning encounter with an aggressive off-leash dog on one of the trails. The road leading to the park has numerous trees that can hit the roof of a class A motorhome, which is unavoidable. Additionally, the dump station is awkwardly positioned. The bathrooms are consistently busy, poorly ventilated, and sometimes out of service. Our camping experience was negatively affected by a neighboring camp host who smoked continuously, causing smoke to drift onto our site and making it unpleasant to stay outside. Due to these issues with the smoking camp host and inadequate restroom facilities, we are unlikely to return to the park anytime soon.

We are long-time users of Lake Powhatan. It is a close drive to our home in Flat Rock, NC, and meets our needs for a great camping facility. We especially appreciate the single-stall restroom and separate shower. They are well taken care of by staff and on our last chilly stay, the heaters were welcome. Since we live in WNC, where lots of folks want to visit, we consider our camping options close to home well worth not having to travel long distances. It's right here and already the best!

The spots were big enough for 2 vehicles and room between the spots. The bathhouses were the cleanest that we have seen anywhere. Close to restaurants and shopping. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Campground is excellent location for quick visits to Biltmore and Asheville. Nice sites with power and water, however no Wi-Fi or cable connection as advertised in Lake Loop. Did however get hot spot with AT&T. Clean bathrooms and showers with pleasant host.

Sites should be inspected prior to a new group arriving. The site smelled strongly of animal poo! On the last day after packing up and beginning to leave the campground I found my shoe bottom covered in poo! We had to stop at a water faucet and wash my shoes off. Now we have to have our rugs cleaned. It was disgusting.

Great quiet place to hang out! Great restroom/shower facilities at lakeside loop. Snug maneuvering in my 40’ class a with toad but no problems! Zero Verizon service where we were but that’s fine too.

We have been coming to Asheville and Lake Powhatan for several years now and love it every time. This time we were also able to enjoy the Winter Lights exhibit at the Arboretum next door. We will do this again next year.

If you are going to hiking study maps ahead of time as the ones posted are hard to read. Overall a wonderful destination!
