Beautiful campground, wonderful location (10 minute drive to Highlands if you need something). Nice hikes, waterfalls, rivers in the area. Hostess was super nice!

Pretty campground. Bathrooms clean but only hot water. In the summer makes a taking a shower a steamy process. The town of Highlands and the surrounding area has grown a lot. The traffic on Hwy 64 is constant making it quite noisy most of the time. Only quite late at night which is kind of a bummer.

Seriously underrated campground. Each camp site is very private and feels like you are actually in the woods rather than an RV campground. There are no hookups but for short trips in our pop up, this will be our go to spot from now on. Bathrooms are clean with warm water in the showers and the hosts were fantastic! They even had little activities and goodie bags for my kids. 10/10 would recommend- but dont tell everyone!

This is a rare gem among campgrounds. If you enjoy tent camping there are several excellent sites; if you enjoy popup or have a smaller travel trailer there are excellent sites for you, as well. Most sites have abundant privacy and are well laid out and level. The bathhouse is well kept and maintained. The CG host is accommodating and approachable. The location just a few miles below Highlands, NC is convenient to restaurants and groceries. The approximate 3500ft elevation regulates the temps nicely in the Summer and makes for cool/cold mornings and evenings in the Spring & Fall. This area of the country gets high annual rainfall totals. Come prepared to deal with morning and late afternoon rainstorms in the warmer months. There is no such thing as a perfect campground but Vanhook checks a lot boxes toward that achievement.

Have been camping here for many years! Always a very anticipated getaway for us. Its secluded and kept clean. Cliffside lake is the perfect place to spend the day relaxing. Frank (this years host) does a fine job of helping people and keeping everything in order. Had a bear pass thru the campground this year. All the campers were made aware of the situation and took proper actions. Remember, we are basically setting up house in their living room. I Strongly recommend everyone take proper bear precautions anytime you are camping in their territory. We are already talking about next years trip to Van Hook.

Nice quiet and clean. Franks a Great camp host. Not real suitable for large rigs both in approaching HWY ,Max trailer length 31 ft, and campground driveway. Our 28 ft fit fine. Our spot was very private. Only gig is no dump station. Will be back.

Great campground! Close to plenty of activities including Dry Falls and free entrance to beautiful Cliffside Lake. Highlands and Franklin are not far away either in case there is a need for groceries. Only downside to this campground is car noise from time to time, but its not bad. The bathrooms and the size of sites are awesome. Site 01 is super private and near a small creek. Great location.

Campsite was very good. Large, level and private with a small creek nearby you could hear at night. Bath house was disappointing. Showers were in good order but one of two toilets was constantly out of order and the other was constantly out of hand soap. Still has a great time and enjoyed our stay.
