Amazing campground. Hosts were all very helpful. The site (Loop 3, site 38) was great. Very peaceful. Will absolutely be back.

During our 12 day stay the end of August, there were daily encounters with bear by campers. They were not afraid of people and wandered into campsites while folks were present, broke into host outdoor refrigerators 3 times, and ransacked another hosts outdoor tent kitchen. Their presence was noted daily as they wandered throughout the campground. Our dog fortunately barked and startled it away from our site both times it tried to visit. I pray something is done to run these bears back into the hills before someone is hurt.

Great campground!! Clean, tranquil, quiet, clean bathrooms, friendly camp staff, many trails, convenient to AT and Franklin. All the sites are nice.

We really enjoyed Standing Indian Campground. The staff were courteous, friendly, and very helpful.
However, the Recreation.gov system 1. is not easy to use, 2. does not include all the necessary information (e.g. we did not know Loop #5 would not open until May 15 until we arrived), and 3. is very impersonal -- camping is a very personal experience and it should begin that way too.

Very clean restrooms/bath houses. Grounds were kept clean and we saw campground host walking and driving in their golf carts throughout the day and evenings.

I have mentioned this several times to the people who work for Nantahala Forest Service and I have spoken to other campers who say the same thing: the campsites are very poorly maintained. We have camped there for several years and there has not been any pea gravel added to the sites, which makes them muddy when it rains. There is enough money that goes through that campground every year to be better maintained than that! Apparently, from what I hear from the camp hosts, that all the money is being used for the Nantahala Outdoor Center. I ask you: how fair is that? Money that could be used to maintain one place being spent on something else? I wish somebody would go take a look at those campsites to see for themselves just how bad they look. And the grills at the sites are bent as if something heavy has been dropped on them. I called the Nantahala Forest Service last week when I got home but no one has returned my call. As many people that have called them, they probably know why I called! Please check into this and light a fire under the right people to get this taken care of. Thank you, Lorna Ashe

We enjoyed our first visit to Standing Indian. The campground was scenic and well maintained. Our site, #38, was large and shady. Our camp hosts kept the showers and restrooms sparkling clean. We look forward to our next visit.
