The showers had only scalding hot water. Cold water line was not even hooked up. Lots of ticks but that is okay. Other than the showers it was an okay camping venture.

Day use restrooms filthy.. feces? on paper towel dispenser NEVER CLEANED OFF.. 8 day stay.. encountered 3 different dogs OFF lease.. on trails and in campground

The tent campsite was small with no level spot for the tent. The trail went behind the site so people were walking and riding bikes behind the site regularly and going down the trail to the beach even though it was closed due to hurricane damage. The repairs are still not done 3 years after the hurricane. There is 1 bathhouse with 2 stalls for 40+ campsites and only 1 handicap restroom. There is an older restroom spot at the back of the campground, but is locked and unusable. It would be nice if this facility were in working order. There is no view of the water from sites that are right by the river. The trees and brush are so tall and thick that there is no breeze from the river to cool the hot summer days. People had smoked and left ashes in the bathroom. Overall, visitors did not follow the leave no trace motto. I cut my visit short by 1 day because it was not a comfortable experience. The sites are very close together and I did not have a pleasant or relaxing camping experience.

First, Croatan National Forest is absolutely beautiful with so many vistas, views and places to see and visit. Bobby, the campground manager was incredibly awesome. He is a jewel for the park service. I met the super for the bathhouses - and he was also a very engaging young man who took a lot of pride in keeping the facilities clean and working, even during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Nice, clean small campground. The sites are nice. Restrooms very clean. Camp host very friendly. Great hiking/biking trails. The beach and picnic area are not open due to storm damage.
