The location of the campground and the privacy of the campsites are great. We were in site 21 which is a back-in site tucked into the woods. Our rig uses a 30 amp service, however the 30 amp electrical service has an open ground (error message on my surge protector), so it was not safe. The 50 amp service was okay and the camp host, who is great, lent us an adapter. When we spoke to the park maintenance manager, his reply was the electric was old and they didnt have any budget, so have a nice day. Also, the showers only have a hot water feed, so the showers are scolding hot. These issues have been from a longterm lack of maintenance. They did post a sign warning you that the showers will scold you rather than fixing them by adding a cold water feed. I assume this sign is an attempt to limit their liability.

We've stayed here several times always an excellent experience, older park, well maintained, nice neighbors, Camp Host very helpful and friendly. I've read other reviews that say camp hosts are rude, unfriendly ,etc. In all my years of camping I've never had a "bad" experience with hosts or Park Rangers. I think that the fact that I try to follow the rules of the park and do my best to treat the staffers with courtesy , respect and the awareness that they are there to safeguard the property as well as maintain order and smooth operation of the park and not be my personal servants and with a bit of patience ( I am after all just one of many campers they are taking care of;) is the reason I've had a great series of adventures. As far as the amenities are concerned, this park was established a long time ago... the facilities are well worn but during my stays have always been clean and stocked with basic necessities. With that said, we camp primarily during the "shoulder seasons" ( Spring and fall) :). The water situation is simple, there is potable water available just outside the entrance to the campground, co-located, but at a safe distance from the dump station, just fill up on your way in or use containers and fill up at one of the interior water faucets. Folks this is a beautiful old campground, the price is very reasonable, the location is great; no it doesn't have a heated pool,or a golf course, or a casino but it doesn't cost $200.00 a night either.

This is the 2nd year we were at Flanners Beach for Thanksgiving and I think the park was in better shape this year. The new camp hosts, Christine and Claire made us feel very welcome and were a please to meet.

Great site with privacy. Showers were warm and clean. Beach access was not easy as the cliff has eroded and theyve not redone the trails.

Chose Flanners based on being invited to co-camp with another couple. We love the New Bern area and thought a new type of camping, that we had not experienced yet would be an adventure. The bath houses and the camping sites were good. The only issue was that the dump site for the black water tank was not functional( I assume due to heavy rain).

The gate. Did I say the ridiculous gate? Or maybe it was the gate.
The hosts demand that campers have to get out to open the gate to come in and then get out again to close the gate. The gate halves are 2 feet apart, you can't latch or lock them if you wanted to. It aggravated everyone in the place every time we went in or out during our stay.

The local area is great. Lot's to do and see. We toured historical New Bern, Havelock, Beaufort, and other small towns. We really enjoyed the area.

The campground was nice and very quiet. The problem is simply the campground hosts. They might be the laziest hosts we've encountered in over 5 years of full time rving. They require that you keep the gate closed at all times which is an incredible PITA. Despite their site being literally right next to the gate, you simply have to call them so they can tell you not to speed and keep dogs on the leash. I want that job where I get to stay for free and don't actually do any work. Trails were great but the beach is closed. Cell coverage was good with AT&T. Bathrooms were acceptable but but very clean for hosts that don't do anything else.

The host here was extremely rude! Beyond being belligerent, he was walking through campsites looking for reasons to cause problems. The beach access shows no signs of being restored after years of being in this condition. The hiking and bike trails are often disrupted by fallen trees. It is sad to see a park with such potential, be mismanaged to the point of becoming a last resort location. It really is a beautiful place, ruined by the host, lack of maintenance and neglect!

Great campground with large private sites surrounded by foliage. Easy access. Nice trails through old growth forest. My only regret is that there's little view of the river and no trail down the riverside. We'll be back.

We really enjoyed our recent trip to Flanners Beach Campground! The campground itself was very clean and quiet and our hosts were very friendly and attentive. The sites were nicely spaced, providing shade and privacy between guests. Flanners Beach Campground does not have individual site water hookup, but we werent inconvienced at all. We filled our fresh water tank at the filling site near the entrance and were fine all week. Water spigots are conveniently located throughout the campground, just incase! The only negative to staying at Flanners Beach Campground is the lack of beach access. There is a nice day use area as well as a public beach area but it sustained heavy Hurricane Florence damage, and has been closed to visitors since. I hope they repair the damage soon and reopen the beach and day use areas. Our stay would have been perfect with access to swimming. The New Bern area is steeped in history and we enjoyed visiting many of those sites. We walked the streets of historic downtown New Bern, visited Tryon Palace, traced the soldiers steps at the New Bern Battlefield all in the same day and conveniently located to Flanners Beach Campground. We really enjoyed exploring the Outer Banks via 4 wheel drive at Cape Lookout Seashore. This day trip is truly the best way to experience the Outer Banks! Overall, we really enjoyed our Flanners Beach Campground experience and brought home many amazing memories!!

Pros: Thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Small campground feel with many deep set, wooded campsites. Paved walking trail around the perimeter of the campground and other dirt surfaced multi-use trails within walking distance. Beach area overlooks part of the Neuse River. Short car ride to multiple cities. Campground hosts, Bobby & Janice, were phenomenal, helpful, attentive!!!Cons: Campground had just reopened after H. Dorian...a lot of beach clean-up remains and some closed trails d/t erosion. The bathhouse could definitely use an overhaul & update.
