My wife and I have camped there during the first week of May with some family and friends ( a group of about a dozen) for several years. We kayak and bike in the area, eat out for seafood and walk on the beach. The setting of the campground is great, spacious sites and peaceful. We love going there. Our biggest concern and complaint is the condition of the restroom/showers. They should be cleaned more thoroughly and some repairs and improvements are greatly needed. Please have someone spend a little time and money to make the building and facilities look better. I would take that much. ( two examples would be replacing the rusty screens on the shower doors and use a pressure washer and disinfectant every now and then)Thank you if something can be done. Take pride in have a better facility.

The site was clean. The bathroom was extremely clean. The whole campground seemed well run. I just wish I could've reserved a site with shade.

Nice and spacious campsites. Enjoyed seeing all the wildlife by land and water on the nature trail. Facilities were clean, but could use a larger or better hot water system. Depending on the time of day the showers would run cold. The campground is very quiet which is nice. It does lack a playground, which is a disappointment considering all the space available for one or more.

Very nice park with easy to navigate roads and large sites. Electic only but the water and dump station is nice and convenient. Most of the sites have a lot of shade. Mine didn’t (13 or 31?). Great hiking trail nearby into the salt marsh. Emerald Isle beach is beautiful and feels more like a locals beach.

Clean wonderful park...that being said, I do believe the website should at least mention that the bathhouse is not heated or cooled. Someone making a reservation in in North Carolina in December would assume that the showers themselves would be warmed by something other than the hot water of the shower.

Nice quiet campground in early November - weather was lovely in the 70s. Mostly senior campers while I was there. The showers have to be primed 3-4 times before warm water flows, but the facilities were clean and functional. Host was attentive and available. Sites are large and allow for privacy with some nice tall pines. Short drives / ferry to many lovely places like the Crystal Coast, Cape Lookout, Boat launch just down the road. Will return, for sure. Sites do not have water or sewer, but both are available in the campground.

Campground hosts went out of their way to accommodate an additional night's stay

Sites are large. Campground well laid out. That is the "good". It is just a shame that such a nice place is so poorly managed. The bath house was filthy and there were no supplies restocked or cleaning done during our stay. Same feminine product in floor of ladies room the entire time! The grass in the campground had not been cut in a good while and it has been a VERY long time since weed eating had been done. The grass under our bolted down picnic table came up to the seat of the table. Totally unusable. There was a sign at the entrance that had been knocked down at some point and never picked up. They simply added a temporary one to replace it. There is supposed to be a 14 day limit on stays but we talked to several people whose units looked like they had been there longer. They said that all you have to do is ask the camp host to put a fake name and enter the fake name on your online registration and they will gladly facilitate this for you by continuing to change names and dates in this manner. One reason we like to stay in state and national parks is because people can't live there. The camp hosts left the park every morning with bikes loaded and did not return until evening. The fire pit was full of old ashes and assorted garbage and appeared to have been that way a while. Our neighbors in the site next to us told us that they asked the camp host about having theirs cleaned out and were told that hosts don't do that and that the camper must do it themselves if they wanted it cleaned. The camp hosts dog was always off leash as we're other dogs allowed to be. We may return at another time and hope for different camp hosts with a better work ethic. It did appear that these particular hosts were packing up to leave so maybe things will improve with new hosts.

The campground is well kept with paved sites, easy access to water and dump station. Hiking trails close by are well kept and dog friendly. Boat and canoe access is also close to campground. Convenient to grocery store, fuel, and places to eat. Less than 10 minutes away from public beach access on Emerald Isle.
