I love camping in the Ocala National Forest. During the week it is quiet and usually a great experience. The Alexander Spring Run of about two miles is clear, slow moving and consistently fun with an abundance of wildlife and decent fishing for boaters. The racoons are big and brazen, alligators and armadillos shy. I highly recommend the Paisley Woods MTB trail. I especially like the southern portion as it has less trail sand to bog you down. It's a good workout and on weekdays not overly busy!

This is a beautiful campground to stay at. Just know that this is like other state parks where they patrol the camp constantly on their golf carts and strictly enforce the rules. While some may see no problem with this, it can also be looked as a turn off (it gets a little ridiculous). Also know that the price are now inflated just like everything else in the world. Its no longer cheap to camp. Its now $8 for a single bundle of firewood (no discount for a large amount bought), $9 a night for overflow parking and about $3.60(?) for a 7 lbs dinky bag of ice. When you are family camping in a tent for a week this adds up pretty quick. I guess this is the price of convenience. I suggest finding these items elsewhere. I would expect this from a privately owned campground but its sad that this is a state park and its almost not affordable for a lower income family to camp anymore. Other than that, the majority of the sites are private, however there are a few out in the open. I will say watch the roots and low stumps you may have in your site. I nearly broke my toe ramming into one. The spring is beautiful and cold (for this Florida baby) at 72 degrees year round. Dont forget your inner tube!

Clearly marked signage for late check in, clean and well maintained campsites and park areas, and beautiful forest all around made for a wonderful and peaceful Christmas spent with my son and our dogs.
