The campsite and swimming beach are perfect! Restrooms and other amenities are very comfortable and cleaned around the clock. We did not get to canoe but the river looked beautiful.
There were reports of sightings of 1 adult bear and 1 cub that weekend at the campsite and on the path leading to the swimming beach. Make sure you use the bear box provided at each campsite to store food and even toiletries, and that you throw away any trash in the dumpster. You can also store toiletries and other scented products in your car.
We did a short hike in the Ocala National Forest right across the street.
Ice and firewood are available for purchase at the entrance.
In spite of the fact that we were on high alert due to the bear sightings, we had a lovely weekend at this amazing park. Would highly recommend and we will probably be going back next year.

Alexander Springs itself is wonderful, despite overuse and some damage to the aquatic plants around the spring. The campground is apparently in need of a major overhaul of their water system, and we were there for almost a week and saw no signs of anyone trying to fix it. The bathroom/shower for the B loop campground was closed altogether, along with the water spigots near the bathhouse. This was not communicated to us prior to our stay. The only acknowledgement was a crew that delivered two portapotties right across from our campsite towards the end of our stay. The water from the working spigots tasted like they had over-treated it with chlorine, by the end of the trip my kids refused to drink it anymore and I had to go buy water, ironic given the beautiful spring gushing out pure water right next to the campground. No one told us about this nasty water situation. When we got there on Sunday evening, a grumpy guy came out to tell us the day use area was closed, even though it wasn't even 7 oclock there - the website and their own literature said 8pm, but someone had crudely drawn in "7" on the sign by the gate. The same grumpy guy confused some local pig frogs (that make a grunting noise) with calling alligators, and argued with me about it when I tried to correct him (I've got a PhD in wildlife ecology). The walking trail around the backside of the spring was closed - why and for how long, there were no signs. Just closed. All in all it felt like the apparently new concessionaire was milking the contract while skimping on service delivery and repairs.

We tented at Alexandr Springs Rec Area mid March. Our first site we reserved was not tent friendly and the front office quickly and helpfully changed us to another site. We had a great night and asked if we could add on another day to our 2 day stay, again the ranger was very helpful. Lastly, we had a dead car battery and a very helpful staff member came within 10 minutes to our campsite, jumped our car and would not take a tip!
I know they are not always able to change sites/dates, but obviously when they can, they are very willing. Thank you for a great stay!
The campsites are wooded, many are secluded and the whole camp was very quiet.

good night, i really liked the structure and cleanliness of the park, however i would like to know why the Male bathroom remained closed throughout my stay. This bathroom is in front of the lot where I camped - Lot 25
