Great campground, great spring, great staff

Weve enjoyed multiple stays at Alexander. Just a week ago we saw our first Florida black bear there. She was removed the following day but what a thrill after living in Florida for over60 years and never seeing one outside of our zoo. The spring is refreshing and if the air temps dip, the water seems warmer. Bring a mask and snorkel. The river run is great for seeing otter, turtles, small gators and fish. Most of the paved camp sites are short and narrow so choose wisely. Generators may be used from 6AM to 10PM (no hookups available). Its dry camping! We avoid summer there. Staff is friendly and accommodating and the park is well maintained. Well be back!

Such a beautiful campground and spring! We stayed 3 nights and had the best time! The front gate is also a little store that sells snacks/treats, wood, and ice which was so convenient. We came prepared with all our food, as you should because there isn't much near by, but we still had to buy wood and ice everyday. They also rent kayaks and SUP boards. We had our own canoe, so I can't really rate the rental experience. But the river was beautiful! A must see spring in Florida!

Campgrounds were very clean. Staff was excellent to work with. Fully knowledgeable about policies in the camping area and making recommendations about things outside the park.

All of the campsites are surrounded by trees and foliage so you get a very private feel. The fire ring at the campsite is spectacular. The spring is cool and beautiful. The day use area is nice and has lots of picinic tables, grills, and shaded areas. The bathhouses were clean and had plenty of room in them. Overall we loved our stay and enjoyed kayaking, snorkling, and floating. Will definitely camp here again. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Nice camp grounds. Not a fan on having to park on asphalt Setting up camp wasn’t the best, at least on the site we had #19. My main complaint was the little gift shop at the springs was not open even though there were a lot of people there. Only open on Saturday.

My 7th trip.1) Repair the walkway. This is the walkway that most of us campers use to walk down to the spring. It starts at site 19It's been in disrepair for multiple years now.2) Repair the Timucuan Trail. It's been closed for over a year. This is how you can help your visitors!

Beautiful place, well maintained and clean. We had a great time! on the downside; I did the reservation on the recreation .gov website, I specifically filled in the vehicle info, 2 Cars+ Trailer, less than 6 ft long, and one tent, It gave me the total, I Paid what I was asked and I thought it was a done deal, when I got to the site, they said that the trailer would count for one vehicle, and I needed to pay for extra parking 9.00 $ cause the 2nd car would not fit in the space, even if it fit, cause my trailer was not that big, they would have to pay anyway. we were able to park all the cars on the pavement and charged us 9.00 $ cash at the entrance, no receipt. (weird)Never wait for the last day to do canoeing, we were told the day before that boat house would open at 8:00AM, we wanted two hrs. for canoeing, last day in the morning we learnt that they were going to open at 10:00 AM, which means you have to leave the camping grounds by 11:00 AM..so no leaving the cars on the camping spot, don't expect any courtesy time, or extra time for late checkout. Still we wanted to leave our money and do canoeing for two hrs., I thought they would say just park on the day parking side, NO. they promptly told us we had to pay 8.00$ per person! to be able to park on the public parking, seriously?? we just paid three nights at Ocala national forest!!!, We paid 32.00 $ cash, again no receipt. Paid the canoeing (worthwhile, beautiful springs) cause I knew I would never comeback. we felt robbed, and I get the feeling we were not the first to be in such situation, It was all calculated. BTW the camping grounds were almost empty, Thanksgivings week. Overall, great time at Ocala national park!!, Nature1 point vs human misery 0. We were able to admire the beauty of the forest, enjoy our time and see the good side.

Alexander Springs and campground are beautiful. Unfortunately I couldn't walk in and pay, like the old days. The guy at the gate was very helpful. He got me online, got me to the reservation website and got me a spot. Being a senior, I used my lifetime senior card for my 50% discount, which turned out to be $15.50 off the $39 site fee. Must be some kind of government math. When I went to school 50% of $39 was $19.50.

I love that we can camp so close to the spring. The sites are spaced out. Quiet times are respected and enforced.

Beautiful and quiet, just what I was looking for to get away from it all! My tent site was surrounded by woods, no direct view of neighbor. The spring is gorgeous and the trails are perfect! Couldn't have asked for a better vacay!

The Recreation area and Ocala National Forest was absolutely beautiful and hiking the trails, especially the Florida trails was world class. The springs themsleves were also world class and I would highly recommend that to anyone. The campsite was the most beautiful with so much privacy - it was fantastic. The concession unfortunatetly was doing a very poor job of maintaining the bathroom/shower facilities. Out of 4 bathhouses at Alexander Springs campground only one was working during my stay. I understand that the US Forest Service may be responsible for the poor condition of the waterlines at Alexander Springs and there fore may bear some of the respobsibility for the poor service - however the communications amongst concession employees was very poor - most not knowing why the facilities were closed and providing incorrect information on numerous occasions. That can be laid down to poor oversight of the Concession by whomever is responsible for that at Ocala NF.
