Across the main road there is river access and some trails which are wonderful for an early morning stroll with the dogs or to stretch your legs. Near the site entrance there are trails that lead parallel to the river and give you numerous access points for fishing or river walking. The trail on the West side of the road goes in a nice loop and there are info-boards along the way to give some history of the area. Do not follow the trail up the side of the mountain unless you are prepared to fight thick brush and a narrow trail, it dissipates as you climb. The most used trail is the loop trail with river access.
At the camp site there are centralized bathrooms which is convenient. Pallets of wood are located near the entrance and are reasonably priced if you don’t want to bring your own wood. Bundles are sold on the honor system and the money can be deposited in the drop box by the main map board (next to the wood).
Overall this is an easy camp ground to get to. It is secluded enough to be comfortable but accessible enough to be convenient. I took my three kids here and had no issues at all. It is located only about 15-20min from the nearest gas station so you have access to emergency resupply of food and medical items (though pricing is very high).
Overall a wonderful experience and we will return this coming season!
