Highly recommended for proximity to visitor center and hikes.

Very nice ranger at check-in. The amenities are very basic however as you might expect. The bathrooms, while clean, are desperately in need for a major upgrade. America has the best national parks, but we need to invest in the infrastructure and ongoing upkeep. The huckleberries are ripe and we did lots of bike riding in the campground loops - perfect for a 5 year old!!

Lovely campground with good-sized campsites (parking space is limited). Clean bathrooms. Conveniently-placed water sources. The park rangers who checked me in were friendly and helpful. I even got free firewood! This is a great placed campground for exploring the Paradise Area of the park.

We try to get up to Rainier at least once a year and we like staying at the Cougar Rock campground. The campground itself is well maintained - a variety of good sites, clean restrooms, etc. - and it is conveniently located on the Wonderland Trail. A nice easy hike along the Nisqually takes you down river to Longmire or you can hike in the other direction toward Paradise. It is also far enough up the mountain that you can drive to Paradise from your campsite early in the morning and beat the crowds - hike the trails around Paradise amidst the wild flowers and then head back to your campsite for lunch. It's my favorite place and has been since my first visit in 1949 when I was 6 years old.
