great campground; first come first served worked well for me. I was able to accomplish numerous hikes from this location; my favorite was Comet Falls/Van Trump Park. The rangers were exceedingly friendly and well-informed.

Other than the dump station being closed, and no activity for the amphitheater, we enjoyed seeing our grandkids experience Mt Rainier and Cougar Rock. I remember when the park rangers use to speak to the campers/kids or tell stories every night during the summer. Miss those days and wish my grandkids could experience that.

Cougar Rock Campground is beautiful! We took our 2 kids (9 and 11) and 18' travel trailer to camp there and as the descriptions say it can get pretty tight in there- rocks and trees right alongside the roadways. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. We also appreciated the water spigots right outside of the bath house. There was a little room with an odd looking sink (think utility-tub meets toilet, meets bidet...) for waste water from dishes, etc. in the bath house.

We really enjoyed that just across the street from the campground was the best place to view Mt. Rainier in our experience. Its along the river and is one of many places that you can hop onto the Wonderland Trail. One evening we took our bag chairs and relaxed next to the river overlooking Mt. Rainier.

We also got on the Wonderland Trail and headed for Longmire where we hiked the Trail of the Shadows. It was a pretty hike, just be prepared for a lot of trees. That stretch of the Wonderland Trail is also very pretty and not terribly difficult. There are bathrooms and a general store in Longmire.

We went up to the Henry M. Jackson V.C. and the ranger there was FANTASTIC! That part of the park was still under snow and being from Michigan we didn't stick around (we've had our fill...) ;) I was bumming that we wouldn't get to see the wildflowers, but even in the end of June they just weren't ready yet. Our kids did the Junior Ranger program and they have new books that were engaging and fun to do. *If you are not sure that you'll be able to get back to a Visitor Center by the end of your trip, tell the ranger when you pick up the book and they will usually let you take the badge with you on the condition that you promise to have the kids take the pledge before you hand over the badge.

Waterfalls: Christine Falls and Narada Falls are really beautiful with rainbows when the sun comes out. Be prepared to get wet at Narada Falls as there is a lot of mist.
