We arrived Saturday morning at 9am (9am timed entry) on Labor Day Weekend with little hope that there would be a first-come spot available. We went right to the campground and got the second to last spot available! So lucky! They took credit card payment - $20. Just a heads up - spot A26 is lovely but the light from the bathroom across from it was glaring into our campsite all night (doesn't go off). We parked a car sideways in our site to block out most of the light, but it wasn't ideal. Still, the stars were INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to go back next year - will be trying to reserve ahead this time.

Staff at check in were very friendly and polite. Also helpful in directing us to a near by trail head . The bathroom is very old and not ADA compliant. The toilet stalls are not big enough for someone to access in a wheelchair!!

The only negative I have to say is the lack of firewood for sale at the campsite. While other campgrounds within the park either have bundles available for sale or a truck that makes rounds and sells bundles, campers at CR can only look at the bundles reserved for Rainier Guest Services, or else be directed to Ashford, outside the park to get some. It would be great if fire wood was available for campers here - it would keep them from scavenging the various branches from nearby trees.

The campground and park employees were excellent. Grounds are well maintained, campers were all very nice and respectful. My only complaint is the reservation system for this campground. I tried to reserve a site online months in advance the day the sites became available to reserve. I tried to do this for several days but there was never a single site available no matter when I checked. How is that possible? I ended up taking a chance and got a first come first serve site. But what is the deal with the online reservations, how come I couldnt see any open sites at all months in advance? Not even a single night midweek? Something seems wrong, should have asked some people with reservations what they did.
