My wife and I stayed three nights on B-Loop and it was very peaceful. Bathrooms had flush toilets--nice. A bit of a walk to them. Will pick one closer next time. Big complaint-- firewood cannot be purchased at the campground!! The shed was full of firewood and ranger said they just store it there....huh? He couldn't understand either. You have to buy it before entering park or go to Longmire store to buy for $13.80 + tax per bundle!!! And the bundles were smallish. I spent $60 for four bundles--outrageous. Why doesn't park management address this issue and try to help campers? I could afford it but many can't. The staff should try to HELP campers, not make it difficult. Just don't understand....
Cougar Rock is close to several nice hiking trails, including Carter Falls, Comet Falls and parts of Wonderland Trail.

Be aware that after labor day couger rock campground closes loops. If you have a reservation on Labor day in loops B,C, or D and want to stay another day - they close those loops the next day and you will have to move. To move you will have to battle about 30 other campers and get in line at 6am the next day to get a site as they move everyone into A, E, and R loops.

Reservations mean nothing here! We made our reservation months in advance, selecting a site near a restroom because a person in our party has a medical issue. After checking in, we went to our reserved site only to find it occupied. A tent and other items were there, but no people. We went back to the ranger station, waiting in line again, and the ranger didn't care at all. His solution was for us to find another site. After 45 minutes, we found another. There were few empty sites and none near a restroom. We returned to the ranger station, waiting in line again, to find that the dude had no recollection of our conversation and situation. Well, we stayed 1 night. It wasn't great as the site wasn't right for us. We noticed that the squatters returned to our reserved site and stayed there likely for free. No one came around to check reservations. So, you make reservations months in advance. Drive the long drive to get there, wait 1.5 hours to enter the park, then find your supposedly reserved site taken and they don't do anything about it.
