Had an excellent spot. The campground was full, but didn't feel that way to us!

The campground was outstanding! The sites were clean and private, and had everything we needed. My husband and I were camping with four of our 8-10 year old grandchildren and enjoyed our time immensely. The bathrooms were clean and close to each campsite. There were two reasons I didn't give this a 5-star rating. 1. The woman who registered us talked about her college degree, her experiences in college, and her work history with the man who was registering in front of us. She talked incessantly while we stood in line and our children waited in the car. 2. The amphitheater was scheduled to have a talk about nocturnal animals. We talked with the kids and pumped them up for the ranger. Unfortunately, the talk was about the solar system and well over the heads of our kids. Other than those two things, it was a 5 star experience.

The campground is in serious need of repair. Many of the sites are closed. Streets have pot holes, pull throughs are not level. I have been camping at Cougar Rock for more than 50 years, and a total of 60 years at Mt. Rainier. I first was camping with my family at the Longmire campground and then when Cougar Rock was new we started camping up there. Obviously the park is underfunded. I would double, or triple fees and start putting money back into the campground and have park rangers available. The other thing you could do is send emails like Yellowstone does and requests gifts towards specific projects. I would easily donate if I knew where my funds were going, ie. trails, camping sites, restoration etc.
