My family experienced having a great time camping here at the Hernando Point Campgrounds. And we cant wait to do it again next year.

The sewage connection did not fit well. The threads were stripped. Everything else was awesome!

it's gotten better over the past year...used to be a scary place. I'm not sure what the 2 hosts do...I never see them do anything (sweet gig they got)

The place has improved over the years, but still just a good stop over or place to stay if you have to go into Memphis. Crime in the area is getting worse...the past two times we've camped here there was a police chase thru the campground and next time four cop cars surrounded a guy trying to get away from them. Since there isn't a gate and no hosts around, a lot of drug deals take place here.

Without a gate and no hosts on site, there's a lot of criminal activity. There was a domestic incident and since it was after 16:30 there Rangers were not at work. We told the Rangers the next day about it and they said the people were getting evicted anyways for non-payment. We left a day after that, and they were still there with no signs of leaving. Not sure what the "host" do here, or at least I think they are host since they have wooden skirting around their 5th wheel and about 4 vehicles...free rent I guess (same goes with the Desoto County Sherrif Deputy staying here). At least the grass is getting mowed now.

its a place to stay if you need to go into Memphis, but that's all (no gate and no host so it can be party central for the weekenders)

The park itself was wonderful, but there was someone in our reserved site. Another camper said that they thought they had been moving site to site for the past three days. The sheriff said they could stay in our spot. It took an hour and a half after we came to the park for us to find a suitable spot that would work with our internet service for my husbands work. By this time, it was after dark, and the temperatures were dropping toward freezing. My husband busted his hand setting up in the dark, and I wrenched my back. I left a message for park manager, but she never returned my call.

Spot 48 is nice, but needs to be mowed more than it was. There was hardly any space to enjoy outside because most of the yard is grown up and only a small spot is mowed. Our 30 amp power also went out and we had to plug into 50 power. There is also no shade so be prepared for that if staying in warm months.

We arrived to a campsite completely trashed. The burn pit was full of household trash, cans, plastic bottles. I picked up a 30 gallon bag of trash. There are no camp host so speeders fly through the camping area without any consequences.

Hernando point is a nice, well maintained campground. There are 3 bath houses strategically located, that are kept warm in the winter. Cell reception varies throughout the park from no reception to 4 bars, depending upon the location. Some of the sites get very soggy in wet weather. Fortunately, I was not in one of them. The one thing that I do not like is all the lighting. There are several bright street lights and a light on the power hub of each site. They make it so you can not turn that light off. I come to camp to be in nature, not to feel like I am in the city.

Appreciate the efforts the COE made to re-open the CG. However, many sites have no ground cover and are very muddy. We couldnt sit outside or use grill or fire pit. We stayed in site 48; while dumping tanks sewage began flowing out of the septic tank from the manhole between our site and the rig next to us. Recommend, if possible, you drive through the park to look at potential sites before reserving as some sites fared better than others during the tornado.
