We love coming to this campground (5th time)! If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing place this is it. Also make sure you hit up Big Winnie Cafe...amazing food! Now the not so good....This was my 5th time camping here and to be honest a bit hesitant to come back. When you feel singled out and pretty much harassed by the "park rangers". First, there was an issue with my tiki torches...never, in 5 years, has there been an issue with them. Second, when you have a "park ranger" snooping around your truck in the dark, with no flashlight, it's kind of suspicious. You confront them and get told to not park where you are cause we are growing grass. After shining my light of where I was parked, completely on the gravel per the rules, Mr. Ranger still demanded that I move. Want to say I have seen and dealt with worse things and would love an explanation on why following the rules you get disciplined while others that break the rules get nothing? Thank you

This campground is beautiful, huge sites, nice bath houses and even a laundry. Just be prepared for the swarms of mosquitoes! We lived in bug spray and our Clam, this was in June.

Site was great. Restrooms and showers immaculate. Wish we could have kayaked or rented a boat to go on lake. Also would like more hiking/biking trails.

Very well maintained and managed. Most sites are spread apart nicely and shaded. Location is secluded and popular with boaters needing access to Leech Lake. We are paved trail bike riders and drove to the Paul Bunyan and Heartland State Trails out of Walker, MN for some great rides (about 35 miles). Drove to Grand Rapids (about 42 miles) for Mesabi Trail and two of their great Breweries with outdoor seating during COVID. We stayed four nights and would come again.

Each year in September a few musical families in the area rent a weekend time to gather near each other. We have two nights of music and each year it grows. This year we had 5 sites rented and had a wonderful time. Fall fishing in Minnesota and touring the beautiful lake is a bonus!!!
