We were able to reserve a campsite (#63) just steps away from the boardwalk to Lake Michigan and the beautiful Sleeping Bear Bay.Be aware - there are raccoons looking for food. One raccoon came on the picnic table trying to open the bag with food as we were setting our tent. Also, the green area around the campsite is thick with poison ivy, be careful with that. They are very strict with the checking out time and had no patience with us vacating the site, as one of us had to remotely work for a couple of hours in the morning. The Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail goes through the campground, which is wonderful and convenient.

Rustic in a deciduous forest setting within about 300 yards of a gentle sandy/cobble beach. No other way to put it, simply beautiful. Poison ivy EVERYWHERE! But, it is an authentic rustic camping experience for front country camping. All unpaved campsites and roads. Sandy to sand/gravel. Some sites can be challenging to back in to. If you are a big rig, carefully consider what you are reserving. Fill up with water on the way in at the potable water station next to the dump station. Water spigots throughout the campground. Pit toilets in campground, no showers. Bike trail runs right on the north edge of the campground, outstanding link to towns and park resources without driving. Amphitheater rustic, ranger program was fun and informative. Historic buildings, exhibits nearby. Lots of songbirds, including turkey walking through campground most every morning. Deer numerous. Dark at night, excellent star gazing. Many restaurants nearby. Would camp here again in a heartbeat.
