Great campground. Very clean, heated bathrooms and showers (hot water!). Lots of space between sites. Loved the walk to Lake Michigan. Easy drive to Glen Haven and the hiking trails. Incredibly beautiful star display at night - made going to the restroom a treat! Helpful ranger at the park entrance (across from dump station). Firewood for sale. Driveways are sloped so bring your blocks and levelers. Enjoy!

This just might be the best campground ever. Crazy clean. Free showers. Specious sites. Beautiful forests with a path to huge beach. Plus access to Sleeping Bear and Heritage Trail. 5 stars.

This is my favorite campground ever. I have been visiting this campground for over ten years. The facilities are nice and clean, the location is perfect (15 min. walk through forest and dunes to get to pristine beach from the Walk-in Loop area), the sites are well maintained and the park staff is AWESOME! To secure a site, you must do so through this website (Recreation.gov) six (6) months in advance of your camping trip (I make mine usually in February counting six months before the week I am able to take vacation). Securing a reservation is not easy - one must do so first thing in the morning as soon as they make the site reservation availables. It helps to know your camping dates and the Loop you would like to camp in advance. There are plenty of activities in the area of Sleeping Bear Dunes, including hiking and biking, kayaking, restaurants, ice cream places, convenient stores and supermarkets around Empire and Glen Arbor towns (I usually go north). My family vacations in the area are always memorable. Definitively a hidden gem in northern west Michigan.

Platte River Campground is the best campground in the state of Michigan! The Spacing of the campsites along with the paved pads are what make the campsites so great. The campgrounds are exceptionally clean as are the bathrooms. What I can't understand is why Platte River is kept so nice and D.H. Day campground (just 10 miles up the road ) is not maintained at nearly the same level.

Wonderful campground that is very close to great outdoor activities like Sleeping Bear Dunes, tubing, canoeing, hiking and relaxing on the beach.

I had thought that we were supposed to get a site with power, but I didn't get one (this was my fault) But it made things difficult as we were also not allowed to use our generator. Otherwise the site was clean and we had an enjoyable time. I thought it was cool how the fire pit and hang out area was separate from where we parked, with a little trail leading to it. The other thing I liked was the surrounding area. We were able to ride our bikes to the river and to the lake.
