Highly recommend the Platte River Campground! This modern campground had very clean washroom and shower facilities. It was quiet and sites had good level of privacy. Love that its an easy mile trail walk to the lake from the end of each loop. Staff were very helpful and friendly to top it off!

This is my favorite campground. I have been coming there for 35 years. Just when I think I've seen all the sites, I find a new one. This year, I watched a mama snapping turtle play her eggs and then bravely fight the waves to swim out into Lake Michigan. Such a testimony to the power of nature and motherhood! Inspiring!

The campground, setup and trails were all well maintained, marked, and enjoyable. The ranger that signed us in, discussed the rules, and provided answers to all the questions we had was absolutely amazing. She was knowledgeable and friendly.

Platte River was a very nice campground. We went to D.H. Day Campground first and the man working their was rude, lazy and very unhelpful. I would fire him if he were my employee. That being said, we looked up other campgrounds nearby and the gal at the Platte River Campgrounds was awesome and very helpful.

This is a beautiful well maintained site. It is not wilderness but there is enough distance between sites that you are not on top of other campers. The lake is about a mile away, You can get their by car, walking or bicycling. Oddly kids are allowed to ride bikes in the campground but not use scooters. If you put a tent off the tent pad you will be admonished.
To me the Platte river site is much nicer and better developed than the D H Day site. Don't even think about the group site at DH Day unless you are desperate. The Group sites at Platte River are nice.
It would probably take a week to hike the various hiking trails in the lake shore, all of which are worth hiking.
