Camp ground was great. Awesome trails. HOWEVER, camp host was incredibly rude at checkout. Not only did he tell me to leave at 3 minutes before noon checkout he couldnt just walk away he returned within in 2 minutes with sarcastic comments. And came back within 15 minutes to see if I was packed up. This was late October when there were only a handful of campers present. Cant imagine what he does during the busy season. In spite of this person I will return.

Platte River is our favorite Michigan campground. Excellent paved level sites and well maintained facilities.

The hiking trails from the campground to Lake Michigan and surrounding lakes and rivers are the best in the state. The campground is peaceful and well maintained.

The sites were really big, clean, fire pits were cleaned, approximately 30 feet between camp sites. The sites were level, paved. The showers and rest room were close and they were also clean. The state and commercial campgrounds should try to duplicate these campgrounds.Thank You and keep jus the good work.

This campground has me coming back year after year - often twice each summer. There is so much to do around Platte River and Lake Michigan. I love the Platte River campground specifically for so many reasons - there are beautiful tall pines, orchids and a variety of wildlife all around. Close by you can climb the dunes, bike from Empire to Glen Arbor, walk the beaches of Lake Michigan, watch migrating birds, and simply enjoy this peaceful and well maintained campground. It is a gem.

First time we camped at Platte River and the campground was great! Spacious sites, quiet in May.

The best campground weve stayed at in all of our travels. The sites are densely wooded and beautiful. We plan to return.

My only complaint was my trashy neighbors who dogs were off leash leash. One time when we walked past one charged at us. I watched the same neighbors dump their grey tank in there site. Never saw any rangers to report them.

Platte River Campground in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.Check-in was smooth the employee at the desk was polite and cheerful and had all our reservations and site tags for the 3 sites we were to occupy for the week. The sites were beautiful with lots of space between sites and nicely appointed with paved RV parking and room for a car, new low maintenance picnic tables, newer looking electric panels with 50 30 20 amp outlets, nice metal fire rings. Restrooms and shower rooms were clean, well maintained and equipped. All roadways were smooth and paved. The dump station was neat and clean and well staffed. We heard an owl hooting a couple of nights. No bears made an appearance, which was a relief. The Sleeping Bear National Lake Shore is an absolutely fabulous place to visit with many beaches, a dune climb which we've climbed on previous trips when we were much younger and visiting it brought back many memories and so many beautiful forested areas. Pierce Stocking Drive a seven mile rolling roadway up and down the hills adjacent to Lake Michigan with some fabulous, awe inspiring views of the Lakes and Dunes and woods. Platte river was beautiful, we saw a half a dozen loons scooting along the banks in the swift current. We viewed Platte river Point where the river empties into Lake Michigan and many fisherman hoping to catch salmon on the fall return to spawn. We drove the M-22 scenic highway which also had many inspiring views of Fall colors and vineyards. Leland / "Fishtown" is a must see where we saw salmon spectacularly trying to leap up the falling water of the dam / waterfall. All in all, we had a fabulous weeks stay and hope to return again soon. Thank You, US National Park Service for preserving a great national jewel !!!

Great place to camp! Very clean bathrooms & showers and made use of the "camp sink" various times. We had a nice large lot with a half-circle drive-through - very convenient. Tubing down the Platte River was very slow due to the high water in Lake Michigan but we still had a great time with a little bit of paddling for a workout. Other activities in the area included fishing on Crystal Lake and Platte Lake, excellent tour on the Pierce Stocking scenic drive - including a few from our family group even making the famous trip down the dune into Lake Michigan and then back up again, shopping in Frankfort and also enjoying the Lake Michigan beach at Elberta (opposite the channel from Frankfort)
