Despite being difficult to make a reservation due to it being popular, the campground itself was great. It was dark and quiet at night, as it should be. Bathrooms and showers were clean! It was close to the activities we wanted to do. Make sure to check out Platte River Point for swimming in the river and Lake Michigan! We plan on returning because we didn't get to do everything we wanted to in the area.

Entire family loved this camp ground. The park staff did a great job keeping the park clean. It was really quiet at night and safe for the kids to bike and scooter on the roads during the day.

The camp spaces are away from where you park your rv and vehicles and if you park a tire off the pavement the Ranger posts it on your vehicle and if you miss it comes and wakes you up in the morning insisting on it being moved meanwhile the child and his Dad repeatedly riding their bikes through your fire pit area goes un noticed and un corrected. This would make an ok spot to stop if you just needed a place to crash for the night but the camping experience was not good

I loved staying at Platte River Campground. I camped both in the standard electric sites and in the walk-in sites. It's a quiet campsite even when completely full, the sites vary in how close they are together, but you generally have some space but not a tone of privacy. It was really nice to have access to super clean bathrooms with flushing toilets, sinks, and a shower. Rest areas were close to all sites and also have a camp sink to do dishes in which was nice. The online reservation and check-in process were super simple and well organized, and the park rangers were accomodating. The campground is close to Lake Michigan and there are two different trails right out of the campground, each about a mile long, that you can take to get to the beach. The campground is right off the scenic M-22 and short drive north to get to hiking trails, the dune climb, and historic Glen Haven. There's also a lot of kayaking and cycling in the area. It's close to Empire which is a small beach town, and Glen Arbor where you can get more coffee, food, and grocery options. I would highly recommend this campsite if you are wanting to explore the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore area.
