Floating or kayaking the river and ending at the beach to swim for the afternoon, cant wait to get back to Platte River campground.

Beautiful campground with lots of trees and newer amenities. Easy camper sites to navigate and a lovely 1 mile walk to Lake MI. Watch out for poison ivy around campsites!

Very clean, well run campground, where quiet time is actually quiet! Camp sites are not stacked on top of each other, but have buffer zones with trees in between. Many can accommodate the largest combination of trailer/tow vehicle. All are level sites and have pads for tents. All but one loop has electric, but none have water hookups. There is a double dump station, always a plus!

Be forewarned, this is a VERY popular campground. Have all your information ready and several sites chosen before starting your reservation. We reserved with friends so wanted two sites together. We lost out on our first 3 choices because one of the sites would get reserved before we finished the reservation process.

Not every site is well thought out, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. Our fire-pit was right next to our trailer so the one time we had a fire, we had to have the trailer closed up to keep the smell out. There was plenty of room on the site for it to be placed farther away. We shared the rest of our fires at our friend's site. Also the picnic tables are tied down so they can't be moved to a more convenient place, like under an awning, as it rained half of the time. Not always a hard rain, just drizzly enough to make and keep everything wet. It would have been possible to eat outside if we could have moved the table, but since not, we had to eat inside on the rainy days.

Other than that, we had a great time despite the rain. There are a lot of things to do in the area. It is situated about a mile from the Lake Michigan shoreline at the end of the road. A kayak/tube rental to float down the Platte River is located at the turn-off to road the campground in on. The Sleeping Bear Dunes are a short drive to the north along M-22. There are several interesting quaint towns in the area that cater to vacationers, and it is less than an hour from Traverse City. We definitely recommend this campground for all who live in Michigan, or are coming to visit our beautiful state.

Gorgeous area and a clean woodsy campsite. Canoeing, swimming, hiking, or just hanging in the beautiful woods. Night star watching is great.
