We try to visit Platte River Campground for two weeks every Fall, but making reservations is a real hassle, and getting worse every year! Once we arrive everything is Good. This year we were on Lot 203 (a very nice lot) right next to the Hosts. Ron and Kim Carlisle are second generation Hosts and are fantastic people and neighbors.

One of the first things we did were to enjoy the free HOT showers. After three nights in Mantisee NF it was a much anticipated activity. Boondocking showers were still too chily for my wife and I.
This CG is dark! If not for the central restroom facility it would have been pitch black. No critters encountered during our preseason stay.
Our clean, level site (204) was oriented to the driver’s side of our trailer. Not my preference but not the CG’s fault either. No big deal as we roll self contained in our square drop trailer.

I would give a higher rating, but they keep closing the beaches to dogs even though the birds are no where around. Peterson Beach was closed to dogs for the second year in a row and the nearest nest was farther than 1/2 mile away. Stop the insanity. The birds will be just fine.

Best campground in Michigan. Only negative is the firewood vending machine those sawdust bricks do not work well.

Where to begin-- the Platte River was beautiful it ran right into Lake Michigan. That area was beautiful. We camped in the fall and color was spectacular. Campground very wooded. Paved sites were perfect w/ grills over firepit. Lots of hikes, scenic overviews. Only 2 showers per loop however and 1 was handicapped--we were in Loop 2. Very hot water! We had a wonderful memorable time of fun and natural beauty all around. Fantastic camping experience with little towns nearby destinations.

The campsite was great as we wanted to have a place where there were showers as we just have a "back of pick-up pop-up camper". We were on our way back to northern Minnesota after visiting family in Kalamazoo. Unfortunately a storm had knocked trees down and we could not drive around entire campground to look at the water from high on bluff. That said, the campsite was nice and we are looking forward to visiting again someday.
