It is a very large complex. The walk-up sites are very nice, and relatively private, though they can require carrying camping equipment around 1/4 mile (400 meters). I enjoyed that aspect, but for certain groups or families it may be a logistical hurdle. There are sites elsewhere in the Platte River area where one can park a car directly at the site. The bathroom, shower, and camp sink facility building for the walk-up sites was very clean and well-maintained, though there seems to be just one shower for the roughly 25-30 walk-up sites.

This was my first time staying at the walk in sites and it wont be the last. We had a camp site that had a beautiful and clean space, the bear box was right on site (although I know others were shared, ours was not), and the trails to the site were well maintained. The facilities were not far at all, Id say a 4 minute walk from the site. There seemed to be enough space between sites that it still felt pretty distant from others. As far as things to do, we drove up to Glen Arbor to bop around on a rainy day and went to Rinco Bros Coffee, amazing stuff! Really great pour over. We also went to the Empire Bliff trail to see the overlook. This is my second time camping at Platte River and I cant wait to do it again!

The walk in was a beautiful camp site, but it was a long ways from the parking and bathrooms. Too far to honest, would definitely not stay at one that far away again. The campground itself was fine and we enjoyed our time, and our bear box was right on site, but the bear box for some of the sites was shared with other campers and/or too far away from the sites; each site needs its own bear box and it needs to be right at the camp site not 200' away. The bathrooms were fine and showers were great, but there are only 2 of them for the whole of the walk-in area and that meant you sometimes had to wait in a long line to get in. The hike to the beach is nice but it is fairly long, when you just want to get to the beach and back easily (not super convenient if you forget something).

Well maintained campground w/ friendly staff. Roads were in good shape, bathrooms were very clean, and the sites were easy to find. The hike out to the lake was cool, but tough at the end when the surface changed to loose sand.
