Loved our stay at Platte River this June. Every morning we would walk down to the lake and observe the piping plovers nesting, and for the first time, we saw their offspring! The naturalist on the beach let us view their nests through her binoculars to get a closer view. We always stay in the primitive campground, and we have access to showers, water and warm, clean bathrooms. We also went hiking on the Old Indian Trail this year, and loved the dense forest that we hiked through. The bicycle path is amazing and a great way to experience the entire Sleeping Bear Dune Lakeshore.

We liked how our site felt secluded. It was a very clean area and beautiful.
We were in a loop with no electricity and we had to park about 100 yards away from our campsite. That was fine for us, but if you have trouble carrying your gear, you may want a more traditional / car-camping site. At night, we also had to take our cooler 1/2 way back and store it in a metal box to keep the bears and critters away.
The pad for our tents was a designated area. We had 3 tents, so things were tight, but we made it work. Something to be aware of ahead of time.
We really enjoyed our site and the staff were very friendly.

Lovely, clean, quiet accomodations with nice ammenities. We liked it so much, we extended our stay! We will definitely stay at Platte River Campground the next time we're in the area. Thanks!
