Beautiful location! The sunset was phenomenal with perfect weather. We went September 1st for reference. The campsite (#1) was 10 steps away from the view of the beach and there was a staircase to take you down to the beach. Stars were AMAZING at night. Werent able to see the northern lights though. Bathrooms were simple- just a toilet and a water fountain or sink maybe outside the bathroom. Its about 45 minutes to the nearest little town and 45 or an hour to pictures rocks. Overall probably one of my favorite places Ive ever camped!

This campground was in a lovely setting. Large level and wooded sites. Toilets did not smell. The woods made it a bit of a challenge for our solar panel, but we managed. Very quiet.

Host was nice. Sites near cliff edge with view of lake are still splendid..

We stayed at Twelvemile Beach campground for seven nights in late June; we had first enjoyed this campground two years ago. It is a gorgeous one with large sites and a fantastic beach at the bottom of a bluff. Stairs lead to the beach. Our campsite was on the side of the bluff away from the water. Although the views aren't quite as nice as those in sites directly overlooking Lake Superior, we were doubtless warmer on cold and windy nights. The campground has only vault toilets, some newer than others. The newest ones have walls painted in a light color, which aids with visibility (take your headlamp, in any case). There are only two water spigots in the campground. Trash (bear-proof metal containers) was emptied daily; toilet paper was restocked daily and toilets were tidied somewhat. We had a pleasant and helpful campground host on all but our final night. Unfortunately, noisy campers arrived after 11 p.m. that night, setting up with much yelling and loud laughter, but they were the only inconsiderate campers we experienced. We had rain and fog on most days, but managed to get in some hiking every day (even in the rain). The White Birch Trail, accessed from the campground, is a beautiful trail and highly recommended. We also enjoyed many miles of the North Country Trail, which leads to most of the main vistas of PRNL. The trails are well maintained, but were somewhat brushy because of the lush vegetation in late June. A word of caution: after heavy rain, be careful if hiking the trail between Miner's Castle and Sand Point. It was extremely muddy, and the lengthwise boards on many of the boardwalks were treacherously slippery. Our less than perfect experience was primarily the result of the weather during our week at PRNL. We love the park and will be heading back, but to a different campground, later this summer.
