Campground is overall beautiful, peaceful, and well maintained. Campsites are roomy and pretty private. Pit toilets were clean and serviced twice during our five day stay. Beach is beautiful and easy to get to. Campground is nicely situated in the middle of the National Park with a quick, well-marked drive to both Grand Marais and Munising. Verizon cell service was reasonable on the beach itself, although non-existent on the roads or at the campsites. The only complaint we had is the mosquitos, which were over the top awful in mid-June. As soon as we left the car, we got swarmed - even threw Off Deep Woods. There were so many that it sent our dog into anaphylaxis and we had to find another place to stay. None of the other parts of the national park were nearly as buggy. I still think the campground was nice, but I wish I had known how bad the mosquitos would be.

We had a great time at Twelvemile campground. This site we were at was at the end of the campground, and felt a bit secluded from some of the other sites. There were lots of options for hanging a hammock as well. It's also very close to the bathrooms. Not that it was the campground's fault but worth noting the the mosquitos at the beginning of June were quite annoying. Once we got a fire going each day they did dissipate more.

Great campsite within about 100 ft of the lake. Id note proximity to the bathroom, as I thought that could be a good thing if needing to get up at night or early, however the wind happened to be blowing from it directly in our direction. Not a great outdoor experience if youve got a tent! In general, the campsites are slightly closer together, which is generally the way things are at sites in the park there (I camped once at Hurricane River also, similar experience). Note that the sites which are directly on the lake have a view, this one does not, but its also sheltered if you happen to have a storm or windy day - and the lake can get pretty windy and turbulent.

Outstanding campground if you're looking for something remote with great sites. There are no showers and there's no electric. Campers typically had tents or small trailers, no motorhomes here. Sites are wooded and the ones along the lake have excellent views and access to the water, although the trek down the sandy cliff would be difficult for those with mobility issues. The steps were wiped out by a storm and are still broken as of 7/24/22.There is no check-in, but the camp host does come around. Print or screenshot your reservation; there is no cell service here.

Awesome campsite. Sites are secluded and quiet. Just above Lake Superior. Miles of pristine, sandy beach.
