My site #15 had very deep sand and was hard to get up the hill to park. It was beautiful once we got set up. Right on the lake with sunsets that cannot be beat. The flies however ruined our whole trip. We used deep woods off and it didn't even phase the stable flies. The vault toilets were clean, the camp host were amazing. Do not leave you awning out of you aren't around. There are flash storms and I saw a couple awnings get ripped right off.

Beautiful, peaceful, and secluded campground! Bring bug spray and download offline Google maps before you go!. There is no cell reception at the campground and it is patchy in the Upper Penninsula in general. Beware of the black flies, which were unbearable for one day only during our trip during the 4th of July weekend. We have camped at many lakeside campgrounds in the Lower Penninsula many times over the years and have had some experiences with black flies, but this was on another level! Mosquitos were also bad, but at least they responded to bug spray (the flies did not!). Site 15's driveway is very sandy, but we were able to back our front wheel drive car in just enough to not be handing in the campground's road. Site 15 is also right across the road from the bathroom. We booked this site last minute and I'm not sure I would stay in it again since the door slamming noise any time someone went in or out and periodic smell was not pleasant. Lastly, site 15's highlight is definitely its beach access! There is a steep but short sand climb right to the beach, and the water is visible from the campsite. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Twelvemile Beach campground and I'm sure we will be back some day!

CARS BEWARE of Site 15! JUNE 12-17, 2023. Big sandy ruts in driveway, not gravel, not for a car with low clearance or front wheel drive. I couldn't park there without getting stuck and with no cell service, it would have been a nightmare to find a tow truck. Recreation.gov said they wouldn't refund my money. Site 15 states Driveway Surface: Gravel; it's pure sand. All the other sites have great driveways, but not this one. It would be a great spot by the lake if they fix this driveway. All other sites in park were reserved. Bad Customer Service, not refunding fees. Talked to the Park Rangers and the Camp Host and you have to talk to Rec.gov. Giving a review is the only option I have to let Maybe they will make it gravel. Good luck!

Well run campground but very very busy. Sites lacked privacy due to quantity of sites placed on the property. Host was very nice.
