I think your reservation system needs work. I was at Hurricane for four nights, Oct. 10-13, only because a campsite opened up online a few days before I left home. All the others were officially reserved, but on Oct. 10 and 11, only four sites were actually occupied in the lower loop and only two in the upper. Traffic picked up on the weekend, but there were still empty sites. People are apparently gaming your system, reserving sites just in case they decide to come but then not showing. That obviously prevents people who want to camp from enjoying the beauty of the park. Raising your rates would keep even more people away, but there should be some way to encourage actual use of reserved sites. Fines for no-shows? Required excuses? Stern reminders or appeals to conscience? Post-date letters of warning or shaming to no-shows? Another option would be to keep half the sites open on a first-come, first-served basis. Whatever the solution, I encourage you to think creatively of ways to ensure that such a wonderful campground is actually being used.

Large site, quiet campground. Close to waterfall hike and the beach.

We stayed at the lower campground, which it means is right on lake Superior. The trail goes through it, so expect walking traffic during the busy season. We went at the end of the season so this wasn't an issue. The bathrooms are pretty close and accessible. The trails are great, you can walk to the lighthouse which is one and half miles from the site. On the other direction there is a small waterfall that goes into the lake, and a small bridge that goes over it.
We will definetaly come back, the place is magical and during slow season is a real paradise.
The small town of Grand Marais is very charming and about 15 minutes from the campsite.

This was a great place - we enjoyed the hike to the lighthouse and the private spot. The beach was perfect with the best sunsets we've seen in awhile.

We had a lovely time. The lavatory was clean and the staff very friendly. The road it's on is beautiful. Loved it.
