I think your reservation system needs work. I was at Hurricane for four nights, Oct. 10-13, only because a campsite opened up online a few days before I left home. All the others were officially reserved, but on Oct. 10 and 11, only four sites were actually occupied in the lower loop and only two in the upper. Traffic picked up on the weekend, but there were still empty sites. People are apparently gaming your system, reserving sites just in case they decide to come but then not showing. That obviously prevents people who want to camp from enjoying the beauty of the park. Raising your rates would keep even more people away, but there should be some way to encourage actual use of reserved sites. Fines for no-shows? Required excuses? Stern reminders or appeals to conscience? Post-date letters of warning or shaming to no-shows? Another option would be to keep half the sites open on a first-come, first-served basis. Whatever the solution, I encourage you to think creatively of ways to ensure that such a wonderful campground is actually being used.

Sites were divided by trees but was still able to see neighbor to the left. Wasnt really a problem though. Site was across the road from a beautiful sandy beach. Trailhead for lighthouse in the campground- great trail. Greeted by camp host shortly after arriving. Very friendly and helpful.

Our campsite (number 11) was nice and very serene/quiet. It had a raised area for our tent, a fire pit with a grate on it for cooking, a picnic table, and plenty of space for our car. We were tucked into the trees which was nice for privacy (we could see our neighbors through the trees, but the sites were off-set so we weren't right next to each other). We were two sites down from the bathrooms which was very convenient, and they were in good shape for pit toilets. We were right across the road from the beach access path (a one minute walk and you were on the beach). You had to go down a small sand hill to get there but it was really easy, and the beach was beautiful. The Hurricane river was close by too, and it was fun hanging out where the river met Lake Superior. It got really windy one night we were there, and you could hear the waves from the lake, but we were protected at the campsite, and felt no wind by our tent. We were also a 20 minute drive to Grand Marais, so it was easy to pop into town when needed. We tried the Grand Marais Tavern for dinner one night - it was great (I would recommend the white fish basket). All in all we had a nice time!

Its a beautiful space. We could see the sun set over Superior through the trees from our camp site, and hear the waves all night. There are no showers on the premises.

We stayed at the lower campground, which it means is right on lake Superior. The trail goes through it, so expect walking traffic during the busy season. We went at the end of the season so this wasn't an issue. The bathrooms are pretty close and accessible. The trails are great, you can walk to the lighthouse which is one and half miles from the site. On the other direction there is a small waterfall that goes into the lake, and a small bridge that goes over it.We will definetaly come back, the place is magical and during slow season is a real paradise. The small town of Grand Marais is very charming and about 15 minutes from the campsite.

This was a great place - we enjoyed the hike to the lighthouse and the private spot. The beach was perfect with the best sunsets we've seen in awhile.

Very cool campsite. All sites within walking distance of lake shore. You hear the waves at night. Campsites are nicely separated by trees. Short hike to the lighthouse that is only accessible by foot. Make sure you check hours on the lighthouse if you want to tour inside.

Nice, quiet campground, steps away from Lake Superior. The beach was great playing in the sand, skipping rocks, swimming, watching the sunset and later the stars. Nice walk from the campground to the lighthouse. Looking forward to our next visit.
