Absolutely loved it! Gorgeous views and close to the trails. Loved how close it was to the lighthouse.

While theres plenty to do (hiking, kayaking, biking, etc), the best pleasure comes from doing not much. I can just sit for hours watching the river empty out into Lake Superior. Even when the campground is full, it all feels quiet and secluded.

While weather is unpredictable here in May and June, I prefer coming here then. It's quieter and less crowded. If you like solitude and the spartan amenities car camping can afford, I highly recommend Hurricane River. But it can't be emphasized enough: the weather could be pleasant, but also very likely to be very, very, very lousy. Prepare for freezing rain and winds, and yes, snow in May is not unheard of (one May, I once woke up to a blanket of snow on my site at Sleeping Bear Dunes, which is farther south, so I imagine May snow in the U.P. is not unusual).

We were able to locate our camping spot quickly and set up camp. Unfortunately the mosquitos were bad and it was very windy. It rained through the night. We began to hike out to AuSable lighthouse but due to cold and wind the grandkids and grandmother turned back. Our grandkids did enjoy camping. We drove to Chapel Rock trailhead early about twenty minutes away from campsite and hiked out before the trail became too crowded.

Sites were large and private. Camp host not very friendly.

Had a lovely time at this campground. We were at #4 lower and it was perfect. If you're near the Lake Superior side, it might be louder and windier. It was more protected and quiet back from the lake. Great location for exploring the eastern parts of Pictured Rocks.

There are fire rings with cooking grates, pole for lantern, and nice pads for tents. Amenities are simple but the location is great.

The only issue I had was that the vault toilet bathrooms didnt have any hand sanitizer. All of the other campgrounds at least had hand sanitizer in their vault bathrooms. If Id known Id have brought my own!

Great location from which to explore Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Hike right from the campground or access nearby trails with a short drive. Absolutely gorgeous!

Lovely sunsets on the beach and one evening we joined a crow for the viewing. Also a simple but close walk is from the highway to the lake along Hurricane River with a small waterfall near the lake.

Wish we had some notice about the water being shut off but it is at the end of the season.

Hurricane Campground is in a nice location right next to Lake Superior and you can walk down the 1-mile trail to the Au Sable Lighthouse. On the shoreline, there is an old ship-wreck that can be viewed from the trail. The campground does have vault restrooms but no electricity. It's a great place to watch the sunset in the summer.

What a beautiful campground! Our site was a short walk to the beach. We saw two pileated woodpeckers in the forest right behind our tent. We also made the hike over to the Au Sable light station. Such a great experience all around. We will be back.
