We made reservations on recreation.gov for this campground on the morning of arrival for two nights. We spent the first night and went on a wonderful hike from the campground. On arriving back to our site we had a ticket saying we had not obtained a camping permit. We tried to find a ranger to show him the email confirmation of our reservation but no luck. Office closed, no phone number. We have had to send emails to the national headquarters who say they havent received the ticket yet and it could be 6-8 weeks. They said it may even come to a court appearance to fight this. Loved the park but this reservation system with no rangers to talk too is not working. We could be dealing with this for months.

We stayed at the upper loop. Lovely spacious wooded sites, well separated from others. Very quiet when we were there after labor day. Easy access to good trails. Great spot!

Potable water was difficult to access with an RV. The only water was from a push button faucet located on the drinking fountains. I checked with the camp host and she confirmed this. The water pressure was extremely low and it took 20 minutes to fill a 5-gallon bottle. There were no showers or flush toilets. It was challenging to have a comfortable visit.

Camp site 2 was great! We tent camped and had a wonderful time. There are bathrooms on site-just toilets, no running water. Went kayaking in pictured rocks, highly recommended!

Really awesome campsite. We recommend the upper loop because it has less bugs. Easy walk down to the lower loop and the beach. Easy access to hikes and lookouts, short drive to grand marais. You can hear the waves from even the upper loop! Bathrooms were clean and there were several trash cans

Stayed 1 night before a backpacking trip. Nice location, can hear waves from both lower and upper sites. Has a potable water fountain and pit toilets, but no sinks w running water. Con: couldnt get tent stakes into the gravel tent pad, its far too solid. Bring a mallet!

A very quiet, peaceful place. You can hear the waves at night and it's hypnotizing. We loved our site and the placement of bathrooms and trash cans. We will stay here again next year, its a really nice place.

Our stay at Hurricane River was very limited. We arrived late one afternoon and departed the next morning, on our way to Wells State Park, The campground (Upper) was beautiful and secluded, and the the Fall colors were at their peak. We would like a longer stay next time.

Amazing location with hiking trails connecting to the campgrounds. The upper campground was only 0.2 mile hike to Lake Superior. You could hear the waves of Lake Superior from the lower campground.

Family spent a wonderful week at Hurricane River. Beautiful and very peaceful. Campground clean and vault johns were pleasingly good. Prepare for cool nights sleeping, as Temps did drop into 40s during our stay. Kids loved playing at the river and swimming at the beach. Lots of good local hikes and things to do. Only complaint is the park reservation system....very difficult to get a reservation due to no availability yet at least half the sites are empty while there due to cancellation or no shows. Park service should change process to opening more sites, like half, for late reservations or first come first serve policy. Make any no shows that don't cancel pay a hefty price!

First thing camping with my wife. Was very grateful that I got reservation last minute online.Camping site is very nice. Very easy to find. Very close to the shore even though it was the upper campground. Very quiet and dark at night. Only negative I can think of is the vault bathrooms could be a little cleaner but no regrets. We got our rustic camping experience. Definitely will come back again. Plenty of things to do. You can drive to grand marais. Go hike the north country trail. Swim at the many beaches along the shoreline. See the log slide.

During our stay at Upper Hurricane campground the one pit toilet was well beyond overdue for vault emptying.Words can't describe the ammonia reek that users are subjected to. To call it a toxic atmosphere is an understatement. Our advise, avoid at all costs.

We loved this campsite in Pictured Rocks National lakeshore, however it was a little bit East of most of the hikes we did. Overall the site was super peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed our stay. There was a nice concrete tent pad and bathrooms were clean. Would stay here again!

I live in the UP, and my boyfriend lives downstate. I brought him to these campgrounds and we had so much fun! The campsites are drive in, but still offer a sense of privacy. I don't think we ever saw any of our neighbors. The location of this site is close to many hikes, and even a short walk to the beach. The views were phenomenal. This was one of the best weekends of my life, I very much recommend.
