There's a good buffer between 18 and 19. If you have a loud group at 17 though, you will suffer. I had a loud group at 17 who exceeded capacity for their site (and they'd also reserved 16, and exceeded that site too). This was a Boy Scout group who also infringed on my campsite multiple times. Just not a good experience for a campsite that should be one of the best in the campground, but unfortunately those who choose poorly make you pay for your choice.

Campsite 18 is nice, because it has a good path down to the river if you like to fish (which we do). However, it's about as far from the privies as you can be (unless you're at 19 or 20, then you're further away). When it's as cold as it was when we were there, that trip to the privies can be long... and cold. Otherwise, we had a great visit. Literally no one else was there (we were actually the only occupied campsite), so it was quiet (except for the raccoons all night) and the privies remained fully stocked with TP. A raccoon did come into our campsite while we were chilling at the fire pit, but the BearVault was too much for them. When they came back in the middle of the night for the trash, they still got nothing.

Beautiful for a fall campout once the leaves are down and you can see the river. Only improvement I would ask for would be to make the well water drinkable.

Site 18 is an easy set up from the road, as it is right across the canal. Sadly, this ease also attracts squatters, whether they are set up at the campsite itself, or set up in floaties at the riverbank, necessitating them walking through your campsite. It's also very close to site 17, which is a smaller site and so if the people in 17 are exceeding the maximum number of people and tents, they will leak over into your peace and quiet. Overall, it was an okay night, made better by the fish I was able to catch the next morning after the waters had settled down from the squatters.

We stayed on New Year's Eve. There were only two other campsites that were occupied during our stay, and they were on the other side of the campground (we were 18, they were 1 and 2/3). It was incredibly peaceful and quiet. This was a far cry from the times we've stayed during the summer, when all of the sites are overcrowded (often with Boy Scouts or large, obnoxious groups) and the adjacent groups are loud and carrying on deep into the night (despite "quiet time" starting at 10PM) and people routinely walk through others' sites with aplomb.

Fantastic campsite. Nestled between the C&O and the Potomac, off a quiet country road, and within walking distance of Shepherdstown and biking distance of Harpers Ferry. Simple campsites and a pleasant camping experience. Highly recommend.

I definitely love camping at Antietam Creek. I just wish others were cognizant of quiet time and overall of the fact there are people there who are trying to enjoy nature. Our most recent trip (March 27), the site next to us had a young child who clearly wasn't dealing with time away from the screen very well. Their solution was to play cartoons for the child... loudly... and through 11PM. It was very rude, against quiet time rules, and if everything else hadn't been awesome, their behavior could have ruined our whole weekend. As it was, the extremely loud child woke us up the following morning.

Still, it's a nice hike from Antietam Creek Campground down to Mountain Lock (Lock 37) or even up to Shepherdstown. Fishing is usually good in the area too, as long as there aren't too many people trying to swim in the area.
