Great campsite with shade ... Bathrooms were not clean

Nice flat tent site with fire ring, charcoal grill, and picnic table. Shaded but not enough trees for hammocks. Site #4 short walk to privy and car parking. Water marked not potable so we filtered, I think this is only so someone can't sue. Has a path to the river but not enough space and too steep for kayak or canoe access. Short walk to river access downstream. I would recommend as an overnight stop if you are car camping, backpacking or bicycling on the C&O canal towpath, or canoeing kayaking down the Antietam or Potomac.

Great sites right along the river. Smoke space per site. Clean privies. Well maintained.

This camping area is perfect if you have a tent or hammock, are driving in, and want a place that is near Antietam Battlefield or any of the other attractions around the area. Fire rings and picnic tables are provided. The Camp Host is extremely helpful both with camping and with local area knowledge.

We visited in the last week of August. Overall, the place is beautiful. The river is less than 20-30 feet from the camping area. The entire camping area is covered by trees - so there is shade throughout (we used campsites 3 and 4 for a 15 member group). The bathrooms were ok (not very clean, but functional). The grill and fit pit were a bit dirty - we had to clean before using.

Great site. Came with the ground frozen and pitched 3 tents. Picnic table very useful for setting up to cook over fire. Small but steep drop from towpath to campsite, looks fairly easy to slip if muddy and carrying gear. Lots of flat ground to sleep on. Good latrines. Seem well maintained.

Nice campground close to the river. Bathroom facilities well maintained. Gary, the campground attendant, was very nice and helpful.

The pedestrian bridge across the canal is midway through the campsite at Site 9 and is the official walk-in route. There are several unofficial short cuts that can shorten your carry IF the canal is dry. These won't work if the canal is wet. The short cuts are steep so good treads are needed. A wagon would help avoid these altogether. Sites 19 and 20 have an all weather, flat short cut. The paths to the river are mostly very steep. Not every campsite has it's own path to the river. I figure next time on bringing 50 feet of rope to tie off at the top to pull ourselves back up. If your campsite doesn't have it's own path to the river, there is a pretty good one behind the Restrooms and an excellent one beyond Site 1 in the woods which takes you to the best beach of all. The walk in nature of this campsite helps keep it quiet I think. It doesn't seem practical to launch a kayak from the campsites. Biking, on the other hand, doesn't get any better than this. The sites are large except that Sites 2 and 3 are smooshed up against each other. All sites have flat or flatish grassy tent rigging areas. Google Maps has this campground on street view from the bike trail so you can pick your campsite by looking it over in advance.

No showers, no running water. Really scenic site right between the Potomac and the C & O Canal Towpath. We brought bicycles and rode to Harper's Ferry about 10 miles away. Shepherdstown is close by and is very quaint with nice places to eat and to explore. Great experience.
