This is one of our favorite campgrounds. It was the very first one we came to after we purchased our first rig in 2016. Five rigs later were still camping here! Some may say it's outdated but for me personally, that's the draw. Also there is NO cell service, again for me that's the draw!

We love this place. Quiet, family friendly, and beautiful! We stayed in the RV circle side. We have camped here before and will return again. The hiking is amazing, too! Things to note: no dump station at or even near this campground. 30 amp service. This place is like a step back in time and we LOVE that!

Last time we camped was close to 20 years ago with our kids and we had pleasant experience and fun watching whitewater race at the Millstream where our friend was participating. We decided to go back with our grandkids and their parents near where kids can swim and be close to nature. It was perfect and peaceful with cozy campgrounds with friendly and helpful camp hosts. Location wise it was convenient to town and stores but not too close where we felt surrounded with nature and away from towns and cities. We had a great time with little ones riding bikes safely and swim with families within walking distance.... but I had a great time hiking and birding with so many birds. I should share that secret of birding, but it was just so wonderful watching birds and sipping coffee early in the morning so quietly except the sounds of birds. Only thing that bothered some of us was no access to shower and it was just volt toilets. We used our own shower tent so that was doable and porta potti for little ones. Most of campers had big RVs to stay so no issues with them. We will go back and already planning for next trip!

The River campground was a beautiful setting, only about 12 sites within view of the St. Francis river. Only one site has water...good luck, lol. All of the sites appeared to have electric and there is no dump station. We were told that we could dump at Corp parks north of Fredericktown....I live an hour south ??. I called the Corp at Wappapello and they gave me permission to dump at Greenville Recreation area, if you’re in the same situation. You will need to talk with the person at the checkin booth and probably pay a small fee of $5. Not sure why they have to charge when you would have proof of where you camped, a Corp park, and Greenville is full hook ups and the dump station is no longer used. According to the person at the Wappapello office, “it’s not used, so it wouldn’t put a strain on the system if you dump”.
Anyway, back north to Silver Mines Campground. There are 3 campgrounds there. The River Campground is where we stayed and the only one with electric. The other campgrounds are older and primitive. The River one is black topped and most of the sites are mostly level. You will need to level some. You can fish and hike the area. There are covered prep tables, a nice fire ring with a grill that you can rotate away for all fire or bring back around to cook on, a picnic table, 30 amp and 20 for extension cord...so no big rigs needing 50 amps. You can fill your water tank shortly after pulling into the campground. The blacktop sites are very narrow. I backed in on the back edge to give us enough room to step out of the camper onto the blacktop. The campground host was very friendly and helpful!

Great Camping and Hiking experience.

Watching the kayaking with the water high was exciting and the rock hunting outside the mine was a highlight.

We really like the campsites, and the river was fantastic. The scenery down that stretch of the Saint Francis this great. The only recommendation I would make is to Mark the trails to the dam a little better.
